Description
Subaru Hoshikawa is an 11-year-old fifth-grade student living in Echo Ridge. His father, Kelvin Stelar, vanished during an accident aboard the space station "Peace" three months before the anime's events, plunging Subaru into deep depression. He withdrew from school and social life, studying at home and frequently visiting an observation platform to stargaze with his father's Visualizer glasses, seeking a connection.
Using the Visualizer, Subaru encountered Omega-Xis (War-Rock), a fugitive EM being from Planet FM. Omega-Xis had stolen the powerful Andromeda Key, sought by FM-ians, and claimed knowledge about Kelvin's disappearance. The pair formed an uneasy partnership, enabling an "EM Wave Change" fusion into the EM Wave Human "Mega Man" (Rockman). This transformation allowed Subaru to operate within the EM Wave World and combat threats.
Initially reluctant toward heroism or social interaction, Subaru's innate sense of justice drove him to intervene in danger even without transforming, such as attempting to rescue Luna Platz from a virus-infected train. His partnership with Omega-Xis evolved from necessity into genuine camaraderie, with Omega-Xis gradually adopting Subaru's values of compassion and sacrifice. Subaru eventually re-engaged with peers like the persistent Luna, Bud Bison, and Zack Temple, who urged his return to school. He befriended traveling idol singer Sonia Strumm, bonding over their losses—her mother passed away before the series.
Season one involved FM-ians pursuing Omega-Xis for the Andromeda Key. Subaru learned Kelvin was converted into an EM wave being during the accident and still explored space. Confronting Gemini Spark, who revived the planet-destroying weapon Andromeda, Subaru used "Star Force" power to stabilize Andromeda and destroy the key. He later encountered Kelvin, who affirmed Subaru's destiny as Earth's protector. FM-ian King Cepheus, initially distrustful, allied with Subaru after recognizing their shared ideals of peace.
Season two (Tribe) saw Subaru and Omega-Xis investigate the lost continent of Mu under Dr. Vega's guidance. They sought OOPArts tied to Mu's revival while battling UMAs (Unidentified Mystery Animals), wave-based entities merging with humans. Subaru utilized OOPArts to access new transformations like the sword-wielding "Thunder Zerker." The season revealed Dr. Vega and her assistant Hollow manipulated Subaru to revive Mu and its destructive force, Le Mu. After obtaining all three OOPArts, Subaru combined them into "Tribe King," defeating Le Mu and resealing Mu.
