Description
Makoto is the main protagonist of Marvel Future Avengers. He is a young boy who was a former test subject of Hydra and part of the Emerald Rain project, an experiment in genetic modification. As a result of this manipulation, Makoto gained the superhuman ability to manipulate air and wind, which allows him to fly and generate powerful gusts. Later in the series, he is given the codename Hurricane and can manifest emerald-colored wings of energy.
Makoto was raised by Hydra to believe that the Avengers were villains and that he and his fellow test subjects were being trained to become heroes. After being sent on missions, he and his friends Adi and Chloe realized the truth about Hydra's evil intentions. Makoto escaped and made his way to Avengers Tower, where he reluctantly sought help from Tony Stark. He convinced the Avengers to rescue his captured friends, and afterward the team decided to train the three teenagers as apprentices, dubbing them the Future Avengers.
Makoto's personality is brash, impulsive, and hotheaded. He can be distrustful of others at first, especially the Avengers, due to his conditioning, but he deeply cares for his friends and his new surrogate family. His primary motivation is to become a true hero, initially to honor the memory of his best friend Bruno, who he believed died during their escape. As the series progresses, Makoto learns to control his temper and works to protect innocent people alongside the Avengers.
Key relationships include his fellow Future Avengers Adi, who possesses the ability to control technology, and Chloe, who can shapeshift. Bruno, another genetically modified teen and Makoto's closest friend, is manipulated by the Masters of Evil and becomes an adversary before eventually joining the Future Avengers in the second season. Makoto also develops a mentor-like bond with Iron Man and the other senior Avengers.
Throughout the story, Makoto undergoes significant growth. He moves from a distrustful and reckless young recruit to a more focused and reliable team member. He learns to harness his wind powers more precisely, and his role as a frontrunner in battles against Hydra and other threats becomes central to the team's success. By the end of the second season, Makoto has fully embraced his identity as a hero and a member of the Avengers family.
