Description
Walter von Schönkopf was born in the Galactic Empire in 764 UC (455 IC / 3564 CE). At age six in 770 UC (461 IC / 3570 CE), he emigrated with his grandparents to the Free Planets Alliance via the Fezzan Corridor. He later recalled experiencing contemptuous treatment from Alliance customs officials during this defection.

Enlisting in the military at eighteen in 782 UC (473 IC / 3582 CE), he chose a ground warfare school over the officer academy, disliking its atmosphere. His performance as a corporal earned a recommendation for officer training. Graduating as a second lieutenant in 786 UC (477 IC / 3586 CE), he joined the Rosen Ritter, an elite infantry regiment of Imperial defectors and their descendants. During this time, he cultivated a reputation for making sexual advances.

Rising rapidly within the Rosen Ritter, he attained lieutenant captain and vice-commander by his late twenties. During the Battle of Van-Fleet Starzone in March 794 UC (485 IC / 3594 CE), he assumed interim command after regimental commander Otto Frank von Wahnschaffe's death. His defense strategy succeeded against an Imperial fleet assault despite heavy losses, securing his formal promotion to captain and appointment as the 13th Regimental Commander.

In 796 UC (487 IC / 3596 CE), defending a waitress from Alliance officers caught Yang Wen-li's attention, leading to his unit's incorporation into Yang's 13th Fleet. He spearheaded the Rosen Ritter's infiltration of Iserlohn Fortress during the Seventh Battle of Iserlohn, posing as wounded Imperial officers. They seized the command center, captured Admiral Thomas von Stockhausen, and facilitated the fortress's capture by Yang's fleet through intense close-quarters combat.

After the war, he remained with the Rosen Ritter under surveillance due to his association with Yang. He participated in the operation to rescue Yang from execution, evading police during planning. Later, he commanded the assault that abducted Imperial Consul Helmut Lennenkampt, deploying Seffle particles to force stairwell combat against Panzergrenadiers.

Following Yang's death, he served as Iserlohn Fortress commander. During the Battle of Shiva, he led a boarding party onto Reinhard von Lohengramm's flagship Brunhild, covering Julian Mintz's advance. Mortally wounded from behind by an unarmored Imperial sergeant, he asked the sergeant's name before sparing him. He died at age 37 in 801 UC (492 IC / 3601 CE), his final thoughts turning to Rosalein von Kreutzer, mother of his daughter Katerose von Kreutzer.

Notable quotes include his reflection on Alliance bureaucracy: "Whether in the Empire or the Alliance, corruption in the military is the same," and his irreverent proposed epitaph: "Walter Von Schenkopp, age 37, died upon leaving these words. He needs no epitaph for his grave. Only beautiful women's tears will bring peace to his soul."
