Description
Dusty Attenborough was born on November 23, 769 UC, on Heinessen in the Free Planets Alliance. His birth followed his maternal grandfather's death in battle against the Galactic Empire months earlier, leading his mother to believe he was the reincarnation of her father and name him Dusty in his honor. As a teenager, he aspired to become a journalist like his father, Patrick Attenborough. His father, however, insisted he join the military, revealing this was a condition imposed by his late grandfather for allowing the marriage. Dusty initially refused but relented after his father pleaded on his knees. As a compromise, he applied to both military academy and university, gaining admission only to the military academy. Upon enrollment, his father gave him a rusted key as a lucky charm, claiming it had saved his grandfather from a bullet.
He first met Yang Wen-li at the Free Planets Alliance Officer Academy in 785 UC, forming a lasting friendship. His early military career included participation in the 5th Iserlohn Assault in 792 UC as a First Lieutenant. By 794 UC, he had risen to Commander and captained the destroyer Elm III during the 6th Battle of Iserlohn. In 795 UC, he served as gunnery officer on the 2nd Fleet flagship Patoroklos. He later fought alongside Yang in the Battle of Legnica and the Fourth Battle of Tiamat, where he volunteered for a critical diversionary maneuver that enabled the Alliance navy's retreat.
After the Battle of Astarte, he became a staff advisor under Admiral Yang Wen-li in the newly formed 13th Fleet. His flagship assignments included the Triglav and later the Masasoite. He continued serving directly under Yang in major engagements, notably the Seventh Battle of Iserlohn, which resulted in the fortress's bloodless capture. His rank progressed from Lieutenant Commander in "My Conquest is the Sea of Stars" to Vice Admiral in later operations. He eventually joined the Iserlohn Republic as a commander following the Free Planets Alliance's decline.
Attenborough became the youngest admiral in Free Planets Alliance history. His personal life includes a divorce, though details about his ex-wife are little documented. He coined the phrase "foppery and whim" to describe the Yang Fleet's motivations when facing overwhelming odds, reflecting his pragmatic yet irreverent outlook on military service and revolution.
