Description
Alexander Bucock, born 726 UC, died 800 UC at age 74, enlisted as a Free Planets Alliance soldier. He rose through the ranks solely by merit, lacking formal academy training—a background that drew occasional disdain from academy officers but earned him widespread respect as an experienced commander across the Alliance-Imperial conflict.

His early service included the Second Battle of Tiamat (745 UC) at age 19, serving as a gunner aboard the battleship *Shah Abbas* in the 5th Fleet. There, he maintained composure after his turret's ammunition depletion, admonishing a crewmate to focus on duties rather than uncontrollable circumstances. He received a battlefield commission, though his advancement stalled for years due to a refusal to engage in political flattery. By 788 UC, he attained commodore rank commanding the Marovia Starzone, rising to rear admiral then vice admiral over six years and assuming command of the 5th Fleet by 794 UC.

Bucock played pivotal roles in major conflicts. During the Third Battle of Tiamat (795 UC), commanding Alliance fleets against Reinhard von Müsel's forces, he cautioned Vice Admiral Willem Holland against overextension. Holland's insubordination triggered Imperial counterattacks, prompting Bucock to coordinate with Admiral Ulanhu in covering the 11th Fleet's retreat, ultimately forcing Imperial withdrawal after their propaganda objectives were met. In the Alliance's invasion of Imperial territory, he heeded Yang Wen-li's warning about severed supply lines. Withdrawing through the Bilrost starzone, his fleet sustained 30% losses under Oskar von Reuenthal's pursuit before disengaging.

Commanding the combined Alliance fleet at the Battle of Rantemario during the Imperial invasion, Bucock leveraged the starzone's gravity well, inflicting heavy damage on forces like Bittenfeld's Black Lancers. Despite this, the Alliance suffered catastrophic losses. Defeated, he attempted suicide, but aide Chung Wu-Cheng intervened, convincing him his survival was necessary to protect subordinates from postwar trials. Following the Alliance's surrender (799 UC), he argued against capitulation, declaring the Alliance "should die as a democracy rather than become a dictatorship to survive." He threatened to kill politician Job Trunicht to prevent surrender, resulting in his arrest by Terraist Church soldiers loyal to Trunicht.

Post-surrender, Bucock retired under Imperial supervision. Recalled amidst occupation chaos, he led a defense against Reinhard's forces. In his final battle at Marr-Adetta Starzone, commanding a vastly outnumbered fleet, he inflicted approximately 25,000 Imperial casualties before being killed in action. His last act was a toast to democracy. Recognizing his resolve, Reinhard ordered all Imperial soldiers to salute Bucock and performed a libation in his honor upon arriving on Heinessen.

Bucock prioritized human lives and democratic principles. He asserted political corruption and citizen apathy caused the Alliance's collapse, stating: "The collapse of a democracy is the sin of every citizen." Though self-deprecating about his abilities compared to commanders like Yang or Reinhard, he compensated with tactical patience and decades of experience. He valued camaraderie over hierarchy, explaining his refusal to serve the Empire despite respecting Reinhard. Married, he cherished retirement time with his wife. His flagship throughout his command was the *Rio Grande*.
