Description
Matoi Sumeragi is a second-year junior high school student. Initially residing with her grandparents following her mother Shiori's disappearance, she relocates to live with her father, police detective Shingo Sumeragi, three months before the main events. Their relationship begins strained, reflected in her habit of addressing him by his first name. She works part-time as a shrine maiden at Kamaya City's Tenman Shrine, assisting her close friend Yuma Kusanagi, whose family manages the shrine. Matoi cherishes an ordinary, peaceful life and holds a longstanding aspiration to become an ideal wife for a future spouse, without specifying their gender.

Her life shifts dramatically when an attack by an extradimensional "Night" devastates Tenman Shrine and injures Yuma's parents. During this incident, a ritual meant for Yuma instead binds Matoi to a higher-dimensional being, the "God of Myriad," forcing her into the role of an exorcist. This transformation grants divine powers but alters her appearance, bestowing pink hair, red eyes, and white wings. A recurring consequence leaves her naked after each transformation, causing recurring embarrassment when others unexpectedly witness her.

Matoi exhibits a gentle, reserved, and initially reluctant personality, frequently expressing a desire to avoid the dangers and attention of her exorcist duties. Over time, she accepts her role primarily to protect those close to her, including Yuma, her father, and Clarus Tonitrus—a stoic exorcist from the Vatican's Fatima organization. Her bond with Clarus becomes significant; Matoi demonstrates protectiveness, shielding her from boys during a Tokyo trip and actively enjoying activities like dressing her. She openly admires Clarus's smile and expresses happiness when protected by her. Matoi also shows emotional vulnerability, experiencing distress when Clarus rejects wearing a bra she offered.

Her powers derive from channeling the God of Myriad, enabling flight, energy projection, forcefield creation, dimensional travel via the "Gate of Caelum," summoning other deities, and reality manipulation. These abilities evolve in response to her emotional state or immediate needs—developing wings for flight when required, or creating weapons and shields later. Key feats include nullifying gravitational fields, healing near-fatal injuries, resisting higher-dimensional effects, and manipulating spacetime across 24 dimensions to prevent universal collapse. Her transformed state bears a strong resemblance to her missing mother, occasionally causing confusion for her father.

Character development defines her arc. Initially hesitant and self-conscious, she gradually embraces her responsibilities while maintaining her core wish for normalcy. Critical moments involve risking her life to stay with Clarus in a higher dimension, reconciling with her father's past neglect, and confronting the truth about her mother's disappearance—revealed as linked to higher-dimensional conflicts. By the conclusion, she successfully restores reality, rescues trapped allies, and reaffirms her appreciation for ordinary life, albeit while retaining her powers.
