Elise is a fairy trapped in a cave until rescued by shepherd Cain Asbell, guided by one of his stray sheep. In gratitude, she grants Cain temporary lordship and aids him in rescuing Princess Charlotte. She presents him with a challenge: transform his land into the country's most prosperous within five years. Success earns him Princess Charlotte's hand in marriage and secures his status. Failure means losing everything and reverting to being a shepherd. This challenge defines Cain's journey.

Her intervention elevates Cain from obscurity to authority, but he faces obstacles including slavers, bandits, and those exploiting his youth and inexperience. Elise's arrangement grants Cain the privilege to choose any woman he desires. This leads to interactions with female characters: Tsubaki, whose body exhibits involuntary responses; Tia, who feels indebted to Cain for saving her; and Chiffon, who displays emotional detachment and has yet to experience genuine passion.
