Description
Yoshika Miyafuji hails from a secluded mountain village in Fuso, largely unaware of global events. She is the daughter of Dr. Miyafuji Ichiro, inventor of the Striker Units, and Miyafuji Sayaka, and the granddaughter of Akimoto Yoshiko. Her family possesses unusually high and long-lasting magic power, enabling her mother and grandmother to retain their abilities beyond their twenties—a rare trait. Her grandmother served as a military healer, treating hundreds, including critically ill patients. Yoshika intended to inherit her grandmother's clinic, driven by a powerful desire to protect others and a deep hatred of war, believing her father had died in the conflict.
Her personality combines purity, earnestness, straightforwardness, and energetic optimism with surprising stubbornness. She acts with a strong sense of duty and thoughtfulness toward friends, often moving impulsively to help others faster than she can think. This impulsiveness sometimes leads to disobeying orders or overlooking consequences, such as attempting communication with a humanoid Neuroi, causing Major Sakamoto's severe injury and a disciplinary crisis for the 501st Joint Fighter Wing. Yet her intuition often proves correct, uncovering military leadership corruption. She harbors a physiological aversion to war and weapons but fights to uphold her promise to her father: "Using that power for the sake of protecting many."
She develops a flat-chested complex and exhibits a recurring, unconscious fascination with other witches' breasts, often touching or gazing at them during exhaustion, training, or bathing. This behavior is portrayed as natural and non-malicious, sometimes creating comedic situations. She also tends to seek autographs from celebrities without fully recognizing their fame, like child actress Elizabeth Taylor or witch Hanna-Justina Marseille.
Her inherent magic centers on potent healing abilities, classified as telekinesis-lineage magic. This power restores living beings to their original state, healing external wounds and diseases. Initially, healing one person exhausted her, but through practice and combat, she advanced to treating over ten consecutively. Her latent magic power and growth potential are exceptionally high. She also wields a unique multi-shield ability for offense and defense, generating powerful or gigantic shields, and can amplify another witch's magic power and physical abilities by transferring her own energy. She claims robust health, never having caught a cold.
Scouted by Major Sakamoto for the 501st Joint Fighter Wing, Yoshika initially resisted enlistment due to anti-war sentiments. She joined after discovering her father was alive and receiving his letter, traveling to Europe aboard the aircraft carrier Akagi. Despite lacking formal flight training or extensive magic knowledge, she executed her maiden flight successfully in combat. Her Striker Unit evolved from a Mitsubishi A6M Zero to the prototype "Magnificent Lightning" (modeled after the Kyushu J7W Shinden) when her magic power overwhelmed the Zero. Later, she used a Kawanishi N1K Shiden Kai before returning to the restored Magnificent Lightning.
During service, Yoshika participated in critical missions, including destroying the Neuroi core fused with the Akagi. She lost all magic power after using the Reppuzan technique to save Sakamoto from a Neuroi core in Romagna, accepting this sacrifice to protect someone important. She was dishonorably discharged after her war merits were weighed against violations involving Neuroi contact. Post-discharge, she studied medicine in Helvetia and maintained ties with Yokosuka Base, supplying homemade pastries. She temporarily regained magic power during a Neuroi attack in Gallia, attributed to hearing her 501st comrades' voices via transceiver. During the Berlin campaign, witnessing her friend Shizuka's apparent death triggered an unprecedented surge in her healing power, fully reviving Shizuka and enabling the 501st's victory.
In non-combat settings, like daily operations during Neuroi lulls, Yoshika handled routine tasks such as cooking, laundry, and domestic duties. She demonstrated culinary skills focused on Fuso cuisine, especially nattō, and collaborated with Lynette Bishop in meal preparation.
Her relationships within the 501st are uniformly friendly due to her approachable nature. She shares a particularly strong bond with Lynette Bishop, her closest friend and cooking partner, and developed a solid working relationship with Perrine H. Clostermann despite initial hostility. She maintains respectful interactions with Major Sakamoto, influenced by Sakamoto's connection to her father.
