Yoshika Miyafuji grew up in a remote Fuso mountain village, largely isolated from the wider world. She is the daughter of Dr. Miyafuji Ichiro, inventor of the Striker Units, and Miyafuji Sayaka, with her grandmother being Akimoto Yoshiko. Her family lineage boasts exceptionally high and enduring magic power, making them uncommon. Her closest childhood friend is the non-magical Yamakawa Michiko. Yoshika planned to inherit her grandmother's rural clinic, driven by a powerful desire to help others and a deep aversion to seeing people hurt. This aversion intensified from believing her father died in the war against the Neuroi, fueling her hatred of conflict and weapons.
Pure, straightforward, earnest, and energetic, Yoshika also exhibits surprising stubbornness. She acts instinctively, often moving faster than she thinks, especially to aid others. This frequently leads her to violate military protocols and the chain of command, prioritizing her personal morality over orders. Examples include her attempt to communicate with a human-type Neuroi, resulting in Major Sakamoto's severe injury, and later deserting confinement to reattempt communication, nearly causing the 501st Joint Fighter Wing's dissolution. Despite this, her intuition often proves correct, as her actions exposed military corruption.
Yoshika possesses immense latent magic power and undergoes significant growth. Her primary ability is healing, a telekinesis-lineage magic effective for wounds and diseases. Initially fatigued after healing one person, she progresses to treating over ten consecutively while maintaining combat capability. She develops a powerful multi-shield for offense and defense, capable of generating gigantic barriers. Her vast magic power overloaded her original Type 0 Striker Unit, forcing a switch to the prototype Shinden model. She can augment other witches' magic power and physical abilities.
A notable physical trait is her flat-chested complex, leading to an unconscious fascination with others' breasts. She excels at cooking, particularly Fuso cuisine like nattÅ, and handles housework efficiently. She enjoys collecting autographs from celebrities, even without knowing their identities.
Recruited by Major Sakamoto Mio for the 501st Joint Fighter Wing, Yoshika initially refused due to her anti-war stance. However, after receiving a letter confirming her father's survival and witnessing a Neuroi attack, she joined as a combat medic with the rank of Sergeant. Her military service included destroying Neuroi Cores, such as the one fused with the aircraft carrier Akagi. Despite her contributions, she received a dishonorable discharge after the Romagna campaign, where her merits were weighed against violations for contacting the Neuroi. She later regained her magic power temporarily during an emergency in Gallia, facilitated by emotional support from her comrades.
In the decisive Berlin battle, witnessing a friend's near-death reignited her power, allowing her to heal mortal wounds and distract Neuroi forces for the core's destruction. Post-military, she studied medicine in Helvetia but remained connected to the 501st. Her Striker Units evolved from the Mitsubishi Zero to the Shinden prototype and later the Kawanishi N1K Shinden Kai.
Her relationships within the 501st are largely positive due to her friendly nature. She formed a strong bond with Lynette Bishop, who shared her domestic skills. Initially hostile, Perrine Clostermann warmed to Yoshika over time. Yoshika viewed Sakamoto Mio as a mentor but struggled with military discipline under her command. Despite conflicts, her actions consistently aimed to protect her comrades and uphold her father's ideal: using power to safeguard others. After permanently losing her magic in Romagna to save Sakamoto using the Reppuzan technique, she accepted this sacrifice as worthwhile for someone important.
Her post-military life focused on medical studies, though she occasionally reactivated, such as piloting a Striker to intercept a Neuroi in Yokosuka. She supplied the Yokosuka base with homemade pastries, endearing her to maintenance crews. The 501st spin-off depicted her daily life during non-combat periods, handling chores and base interactions alongside her squadron.
