Michiko Yamakawa, Yoshika Miyafuji's childhood best friend and second cousin, originates from the same village. Despite their close familial tie, Michiko lacks any inherent witch abilities herself. The pair attended Yokosuka 4th Girls-only Middle School together, where friends knew Michiko by the nickname "Micchan." Growing up with a brother, Michiko maintained a strong bond with Yoshika. She often brought wounded animals to the Miyafuji clinic for Yoshika to heal using magic. On one occasion, Yoshika's abilities personally healed Michiko after she sustained an injury. Michiko exhibits a deep interest in military history, specifically warships and witches. She enjoys reading detailed warship specifications, favoring the Imperial Fusoan Navy's Takao-class heavy cruiser Takao. Her fascination with witches grew significantly after Yoshika joined the Navy, leading her to acquire extensive knowledge about famous witches worldwide. Following junior high graduation, Michiko enrolled in a teacher's training school pursuing an education career. Secretly, however, she harbors aspirations to join the Navy and serve alongside Yoshika as her cadet. She appears as a recurring character in the spin-off *Strike Witches: 501st JOINT FIGHTER WING Take Off!*, maintaining her established relationship with Yoshika. Her character design features dark blue hair and grey eyes. The name Michiko translates to "beautiful thousand child," while her surname Yamakawa means "mountain river." Though not depicted as a witch in official content, franchise artist Humikane Shimada created a conceptual witch design for her.
