Description
Perrine H. Clostermann, whose full name is Pierrette-Henriette Clostermann, is a witch of the 501st Joint Fighter Wing and originates from the nation of Gallia. She is fifteen years old, stands 152 centimeters tall, and has long blonde hair, yellow eyes, and round glasses, and she is known within the unit by the title Blue Premier. She comes from an influential Gallian noble family, and the Neuroi invasion that destroyed her homeland and her family's estate left deep emotional scars. In response, she devoted herself to fighting for Gallia's liberation, eventually donating much of her personal wealth and salary to the reconstruction of her country.
Perrine is proud, proper, and aristocratic in manner, and she often looks down on comrades whose habits she considers less refined. She is disciplined, takes her military duties seriously, and is fiercely patriotic, but her strong pride also makes her quick to become flustered and indignantly dramatic when her dignity is challenged. In the lighthearted spin-off Strike Witches: 501st Joint Fighter Wing Take Off!, which focuses on the daily lives and misadventures of the squadron, these traits make her a frequent source of comedy, as her haughty reactions contrast with the relaxed atmosphere around her. Beneath that exterior, however, she is caring, loyal, and dependable, even if she rarely expresses her softer feelings openly.
Her main motivation is to free Gallia from the Neuroi and restore her homeland, and she carries a strong sense of duty and personal honor from her noble upbringing. In the main story of the franchise, she initially struggles to work as part of a team and develops a dislike for the newcomer Yoshika Miyafuji, partly because of Yoshika's closeness to Mio Sakamoto, but she gradually learns to trust her fellow witches and grows into a reliable and cooperative comrade.
Within the 501st, Perrine holds the rank of Flying Officer and previously served in the Armée de l'Air 802nd Flying Corps. She is the squadron's sharpshooter, and her notable magical ability is Tonnerre, a technique named after the French word for thunder that allows her to supercharge magic power into the shots she fires for much greater impact. She enters battle carrying a rapier and a Bren light machine gun while flying a Striker Unit modeled on the Arsenal VG 39. While wearing her Striker Unit, she gains the dark ears and tail of a Chartreux cat.
Among her key relationships, she holds Mio Sakamoto in especially high regard as a senior officer and mentor figure, treats squadron commander Minna-Dietlinde Wilcke with formal respect, and moves from rivalry with Yoshika to a warmer bond as she comes to recognize Yoshika's kindness and ability. With the other witches of the 501st, she alternates between bickering and bonding, and over the course of the franchise and the Take Off! spin-off she comes to regard them as close comrades and something of a second family, even as the comedy series continues to highlight her proud and easily embarrassed demeanor.
