Description
Miyu Edelfelt, originally Miyu Sakatsuki, hails from a parallel world. Born into the Sakatsuki family as a "Child of God" (神稚児, Kami Chigo), she possessed innate wish-granting abilities equivalent to a complete Holy Grail, revered within an occult religion. She grew up isolated within the Sakatsuki residence, receiving limited education and minimal human contact beyond her mother, resulting in an initially emotionless and stoic demeanor.
When Julian Ainsworth unleashed a destructive black shadow over Fuyuki during her world's Fourth Holy Grail War, Miyu subconsciously responded to the surrounding suffering and nullified the shadows. This act revealed her location, allowing Shirou Emiya to find and rescue her from the collapsing residence. He brought her to Kiritsugu Emiya, who recognized her as the Holy Grail needed for world salvation. Kiritsugu regarded her coldly as a tool, focusing solely on researching her powers before their predicted diminishment. Miyu formed a strong attachment to Shirou, creating emotional conflict for him.
After Kiritsugu's death, Shirou struggled to treat Miyu as either a tool or a normal child, confining her to the Emiya residence. He provided educational materials, though these were impractical and detached from real-world application. Around age ten, Miyu developed more human expressions and emotions. Witnessing Shirou's grief over Kiritsugu's final moments triggered her unconscious wish-granting power, transforming her into Shirou's biological sister. This wish altered her eye color to match Shirou's as proof of their bond. Shirou then resolved to care for her genuinely, planning to show her the ocean. During a visit to the Sakatsuki ruins to explain her origins, Julian Ainsworth intercepted them, accusing Shirou of theft and kidnapping Miyu.
Following Shirou's victory in the Fifth Ainsworth Holy Grail War, Miyu was teleported to Illyasviel von Einzbern's parallel world through Shirou's wish upon the Grail, while Shirou remained behind due to his battle with Angelica. In this new world, Luviagelita "Luvia" Edelfelt discovered Miyu, adopted her, and gave her the surname "Edelfelt." Miyu lived as Luvia's maid in exchange for shelter and became a magical girl using the Kaleidostick Magical Sapphire, Ruby's sister mystic code.
Initially displaying a mature, dutiful, and aloof personality, Miyu took her magical girl duties seriously while dismissing Illya's abilities. Her upbringing left her with advanced knowledge in physics and mathematics but underdeveloped social skills, causing her to prioritize logic over emotions. She gradually warmed to Illya after numerous joint missions to collect Class Cards, developing a deep, protective devotion to her. This relationship became central to her character, with Miyu exhibiting intense loyalty and willingness to risk her life for Illya. She also displayed rivalry with Chloe von Einzbern, Illya's alter ego, over Illya's affection.
Miyu's role expanded during the eighth Class Card incident involving Gilgamesh. He revealed her origin as a parallel-world Holy Grail and kidnapped her. After Illya rescued her using a combined Kaleidostick form, Miyu was abducted again by the Ainsworth family and returned to her original world. Held captive in the Ainsworth stronghold, they prepared to use her as a Holy Grail to enact a ritual evolving humanity for survival in a dying world—a process requiring her sacrifice. Shirou infiltrated the stronghold to rescue her, battling Julian's forces.
During captivity, Miyu nearly succumbed to despair but clung to hope inspired by Illya. After reuniting with Shirou and joining Illya's group to confront the Ainsworths, she witnessed Shirou's near-fatal sacrifice to protect her. This reinforced her resolve to seek a path where everyone could be saved, mirroring Illya's idealism. Post-rescue, she resumed living with Shirou in the Emiya residence while maintaining her magical girl activities and bond with Illya. In this stable environment, she exhibited more childlike traits, wearing animal-themed pajamas, acting playfully spoiled around Shirou, and enjoying everyday activities like cooking.
As a Caster-class Servant in Fate/Grand Order, summoned by Ritsuka Fujimaru, her abilities include Magic Resistance and Infinite Mana Supply, with her Noble Phantasm being "Wish Upon a Star."
