Description
Briefers Rock, nicknamed Brief, occupies the lowest social tier ("Geek's Class") at Daten City High School, enduring frequent bullying. As heir to the wealthy Rock Foundation, his life is tightly controlled by his father, Arthur Rock, who arranged his engagement to Scanty, the mayor's daughter. Brief openly rebels against this arrangement, refusing to be his father's "puppet" and pursuing his love for Panty. His wealth allows actions like buying Panty's overpriced underwear online, though he is often forced into formal attire like a white tuxedo.
Brief possesses wavy ginger hair covering his eyes (without impairing vision), green eyes, freckles, and a round nose. Pulling his hair back reveals a strikingly handsome face with sharper features and lighter freckles. His standard outfit is a khaki green hoodie and pants, beige and dark green sneakers, a dark green belt, grey headphones, and white briefs. He typically carries a PKE Meter, a ghost-detection device resembling Ghostbusters equipment, strapped to his back.
Personality-wise, Brief is shy, naïve, and self-proclaims as an occult enthusiast and ghost hunter. He acts as a voice of reason for Panty and Stocking, though they usually mock or ignore him as "Geek Boy." Despite constant physical abuse and being a frequent target of jokes—like landing in garbage piles or being knocked away by the demon sisters' red carpet—he remains determined and harbors unwavering, unrequited love for Panty. Official descriptions note his masochistic tendencies. He exhibits loyalty, showing genuine grief over Garterbelt's temporary death.
Brief's abilities focus on his PKE Meter, which detects ghosts and emits smokescreens. Crucially, as the descendant of Hell's Monkey, he uniquely opens Hell's Gate using his penis as a key, a trait exploited by antagonist Corset. In one incident, Panty transforms his underwear into a double-barreled shotgun, limited by Brief's poor stamina to two shots. This event and other implications suggest he has a large penis, a recurring element.
His relationship with Panty defines much of his arc. After meeting her in "The Turmoil of the Beehive," he develops a major crush, often blushing in her presence. Panty reciprocates with disdain, disregarding his safety and rejecting his advances. In "Panty + Brief," he rescues her during a confrontation with demon sisters and hides with her in an abandoned house where they attempt sex. Panty experiences pain due to Revival Virgin Syndrome, and Corset interrupts, capturing Brief to activate Hell's Gate. Later, after losing his virginity to Panty, Brief accidentally reopens Hell's Gate when ignored by her after falling from the sky, unleashing a catastrophic ghost. This causes him to angrily confront Panty and Stocking about their attitudes.
Brief's other interactions include Garterbelt openly expressing sexual interest, making him uncomfortable. He temporarily loses his ghost-related abilities after the Hell's Gate incident but remains involved in the sisters' conflicts. His development is minimal across most episodes, often serving as comic relief, though he demonstrates moments of bravery, such as assisting in defeating the demon sisters' ghost-production machine by securing a critical jewel.
