Description
Makoto Isshiki is a supporting character in the film Love, Chunibyo and Other Delusions! Take On Me, which serves as the finale to the series. He is first introduced as a classmate of the protagonist, Yuuta Togashi, and becomes his first friend in high school. Isshiki serves as a disciplinary committee member, often calling himself a romance supervisor or site supervisor due to his self-appointed expertise in matters of love and his keen interest in the female students. His outward demeanor is friendly, cheerful, and sociable, making him an approachable and talkative presence among his peers. However, this surface-level persona conceals a more obsessive tendency: he meticulously gathers information about female classmates and has been known to create rankings of their cuteness, an endeavor that once led to a school scandal and resulted in him taking full responsibility by shaving his head. Despite his sometimes perverse or superficial actions, Isshiki is a loyal friend who demonstrates genuine concern for the emotional well-being of those around him, particularly Yuuta and his relationship with Rikka Takanashi.

In the story of Take On Me, Isshiki’s role is primarily that of comic relief and a grounded observer among the more eccentric main cast, who are defined by their chunibyo delusions. While he does not possess any supernatural abilities, his practical and often blunt perspective helps balance the fantastical elements of the narrative. He is a member of the school club formed around Rikka, and his interactions with the group are marked by his attempts to apply his self-styled romantic theories, usually with comically ineffective results. His key relationships include his friendship with Yuuta, whom he often tries to advise, and a developing romantic interest in the older student Kumin Tsuyuri, which begins after she compliments his voluntarily shaved head. Over the course of the series, Isshiki shows some development from a purely superficial girl-chaser into a more dependable and caring friend, though his core personality remains consistently upbeat and romantically optimistic. In the film, his presence reinforces the theme of friendship and serves as a reminder of the ordinary, non-delusional world that the central couple navigates.
