Retsuko's mother is an anthropomorphic red panda whose orange fur has dulled with age. She possesses black eyes, brown facial markings known as "tear stains," a white stripe beside them, and a white muzzle, ears, and eyebrows. Her legs, hands, and striped tail are brown, matching the color of her facial markings.

Her personality is overbearing, aggressive, and pushy, though her actions are well-meaning. She wants her daughter to have a perfect life and sees no issue with taking control of it, believing Retsuko fails to manage it adequately. Despite actively orchestrating an arranged marriage for her daughter, she herself fell in love with her husband through a chance meeting and believes in love at first sight. Although her behavior strains her relationship with Retsuko, she deeply loves her daughter and is slowly learning to step back, albeit with difficulty.

She first appeared in Season 2 by breaking into Retsuko's apartment to cook, clean, and pressure her about marriage. She arranged a marriage introduction with a polar bear named Shirota and showed Retsuko an airbrushed photo of him to make him appear more handsome, which Shirota later found amusing.

Her relationship with her husband is good, and she is very much in love with him. Her relationship with Retsuko is complex and strained due to her domineering nature and refusal to let Retsuko lead her own life. She judges many aspects of Retsuko's life, from her lack of a romantic relationship to her inability to keep a clean home, which greatly aggravates her daughter. Retsuko, however, cares greatly for her mother and tries to take her advice to heart.

In later seasons, Haida becomes Retsuko's husband, making him her son-in-law. During a visit from Retsuko and Haida, she was initially shocked when Haida accidentally revealed the nature of their living situation, but she and her husband began to grow closer to him afterward.
