Description
Masamune Takano is the editor-in-chief of the Emerald department at Marukawa Publishing, a role he earned through exceptional skill, earning him the nickname the Capable. Born on December 24, he was originally known as Saga Masamune before his parents divorced during his high school years, after which he took his mother’s maiden name. He is tall and has short, slick black hair with a few spikes, and brown eyes. In the events of the story, he is in his late twenties to early thirties.

Takano’s personality is marked by fierce determination and a sharp, assertive confidence that makes him highly effective in his professional life. He can appear arrogant or haughty to outsiders, but his strictness is largely limited to work; in private, he is unexpectedly sweet and attentive toward those he cares about. Beneath this competent exterior lies a complex emotional landscape. He is prone to jealousy, especially regarding his love interest Ritsu Onodera’s interactions with others, and his aloofness often masks deep-seated emotional struggles. His driving motivation is to rekindle his relationship with Ritsu, whom he still loves unconditionally after their painful breakup in high school. This fuels his famous promise: “I will make you fall in love with me again.”

As the head of the Emerald editorial division, Takano plays a central role in the narrative. He is both Ritsu’s direct superior and his former high-school sweetheart, creating a dynamic of workplace tension and unresolved romantic history. His past with Ritsu is the core of the story: they dated briefly in high school but split due a mutual misunderstanding, each believing the other was in the wrong. The breakup, combined with family problems and other personal issues, led Takano to experience a breakdown during his university years. During that difficult period, he had a brief relationship with Takafumi Yokozawa, which was eventually resolved. Takano’s unresolved feelings for Ritsu remained a constant undercurrent, shaping his actions and emotional growth.

His key relationships include Ritsu, the focal point of his emotional narrative; Haru Yoshida, a colleague and friend who provides balance and comic relief; and Chiaki Yoshino, a rival editor whose competitive interactions highlight the high-pressure work environment. Over the course of the series, Takano undergoes significant development, learning to balance his intense personal feelings with his professional responsibilities and confronting the emotional fallout of his past. He gradually opens up and moves toward a healthier, more stable relationship with Ritsu.

As an editor, Takano possesses exceptional abilities in storytelling, narrative structure, and emotional intelligence, which enable him to guide authors effectively and resolve conflicts. His keen eye for talent and his ability to elevate others’ work are hallmarks of his professional reputation. However, his emotional barriers can sometimes cloud his judgment, leading to personal conflicts that he must work to overcome. Through his journey, Takano evolves from a man haunted by heartbreak and insecurity into someone capable of both professional mastery and genuine romantic commitment.
