Misa Amane, a renowned model and actress from Kyoto, becomes the Second Kira after acquiring a Death Note. Her parents were murdered in a home robbery during her youth, and Kira's execution of their killer cemented her loyalty to his cause. Before meeting Kira, she survived a stalker's attack when the Shinigami Gelus sacrificed his life by writing the stalker's name in his Death Note, extending Misa's lifespan. The Shinigami Rem witnessed this act and later delivered Gelus' Death Note to Misa, detailing its origins and rules. Misa moves to Tokyo to locate Kira, using the Death Note to kill criminals and draw his attention. She makes the Shinigami Eye Deal with Rem, trading half her remaining lifespan for the power to see humans' names and lifespans by sight. This ability reveals Light Yagami as Kira. Upon meeting him, she declares love and dedicates herself to his mission, often using the third-person nickname "Misa-Misa." Her personality blends bubbly impulsiveness with a Gothic fashion style, frequently accessorized with cross or fleur-de-lis jewelry. Her devotion fuels actions like executing Light's killings and aiding schemes against threats such as L. She displays cunning by tricking Yotsuba Group member Kyosuke Higuchi into exposing himself as a false Kira. However, carelessness—such as leaving fingerprints on evidence—leads to her capture. Light manipulates her loyalty twice, instructing her to relinquish her Death Note ownership, erasing her memories of being Kira each time. Despite memory loss, she retains affection for Light and resumes her role as the Second Kira upon remembering. Misa performs the Shinigami Eye Deal twice, first with Rem and later with Ryuk, each halving her remaining lifespan. Rem develops protective feelings for her and dies when Light forces Rem to kill L and Watari to save Misa. Misa shows minimal reaction to Rem's death, staying focused on Light. In the "Relight 2: L's Successors" OVA, her role diminishes, appearing mostly in flashbacks or Light's strategies. After Light's death, her life loses purpose, implying suicide shortly afterward. This outcome is visually suggested in the anime adaptation, while the manga leaves it ambiguous yet heavily inferred.
