Description
Chisaki Miyazaki is a student at Yukemuri High School and a classmate of the protagonist, Kogarashi Fuyuzora. She is widely recognized as one of the few completely ordinary human beings among the main cast, which sets her apart in a story filled with ghosts, spirits, and supernatural phenomena. Standing at 155 centimeters tall, she is a girl of average height with short orange hair and light blue eyes, often securing her hair with a decorative clip on the left side. Her physical appearance is frequently described as being of idol-class beauty, and she possesses a notably mature and well-proportioned figure for her age.
Chisaki’s personality is defined by a contrast between her friendly, approachable demeanor and her deep-seated caution around men. Due to her mother’s repeated warning that all men are wolves, she grew up viewing boys as inherently lustful and somewhat frightening. This fear led her to adopt a plain appearance in her early school years, using glasses and modest clothing to avoid attention, though these efforts did little to deter admirers. Over time, she resolved to stop caring about the stares she receives, but a lingering wariness remains, with Kogarashi being a significant exception to her distrust. Despite her conservative and often level-headed exterior, Chisaki harbors a surprisingly lewd imagination, frequently losing herself in vivid, high-level romantic fantasies and daydreams, particularly once she becomes conscious of her feelings for Kogarashi.
Chisaki’s role in the story is that of a normal anchor to the supernatural chaos of Yuragi Inn. Though she does not live at the inn, she becomes a frequent visitor and a core member of its extended social circle, often coming to use the baths, study, or participate in group activities. Her journey into the supernatural world begins when she asks Kogarashi for help with a poltergeist in her own room. The culprit is revealed to be Koyuzu Shigaraki, a young tanuki spirit who becomes attached to Chisaki due to her ample chest, which Koyuzu believes is necessary for passing as a human. This encounter is a turning point, as the possession by Koyuzu eventually awakens Chisaki’s latent spiritual power, granting her the ability to see ghosts for the first time.
Her key relationships are central to her development. Her bond with Kogarashi evolves from an initial misunderstanding where she believed he lifted her skirt, to a deep trust and eventual romantic love. She comes to see him as the only man she can truly rely on, and her feelings deepen over time, leading to a public confession of her rivalry for his affection. With the ghost Yuuna, Chisaki forms a close friendship, appreciating Yuuna’s kindness despite being unable to see her initially. The two eventually become romantic rivals once they both acknowledge their feelings for Kogarashi. She also acts as a trusted older sister figure to Koyuzu, often taking her shopping and to her home. Her dynamic with Oboro Maborigamine is one of a straight man or tsukkomi, as she constantly tries to rein in Oboro’s misguided antics and inappropriate comments.
Throughout the series, Chisaki experiences significant development and showcases several notable abilities. While starting as a non-spiritual person, her abilities grow from being able to communicate with spirits through writing to gaining full clairvoyance after her possession incident, though she can still only interact with them when they allow it. Aside from her spiritual growth, she is highly accomplished in domestic skills, particularly Italian cuisine and pastry making, even teaching recipes to the chef at Yuragi Inn. She is also a capable pianist. Her character arc follows her transformation from a bystander trying to avoid attention into an active and brave participant in the inn’s mystical life, driven by her loyalty and affection for those she considers friends. Her popularity within the series is notable, as she consistently ranked second in official character popularity polls.
