Description
On-chan debuted as Hokkaido Television Broadcasting's (HTB) mascot on December 1, 1997, celebrating the station's 30th anniversary through the "On Parade!" campaign. Hailing from the Parade Planet as a Parade Alien, he possesses a yellow spherical body with a crushed-sphere silhouette, limbs, a mouth, and distinctive eyes—one shaped like an "o," the other like an "n." His design evolved from rigid ovals to expressive freehand elements, with yellow symbolizing both energy and cuteness.

His name evokes positive associations like "Switch on!" and "On Parade!," matching his curious, optimistic personality. He constantly seeks excitement and friendships, speaking with a unique quirk: replacing "o" in Japanese words with "on," such as greeting with "On-nichiwa." Roughly basketball-sized, he occasionally dons a small hat. He adores cheese and corn but detests crows and the antagonistic Hiroshi Oizumi. Though prone to clumsiness, his inherent positivity ensures swift recovery from setbacks.

Key relationships include OK-chan, his pink-hued childhood friend and girlfriend who acts as an older sister figure; Guchi, a size-shifting pet; and rival No-chan, whose black, Shadow Kirby-like form contrasts On-chan's traits. Other associates are Kyatagon (No-chan's pet), Me-chan, Tenko-chan, Tomaru-kun, Nazona Moshi, Doctor, and Assistant.

Beyond static media, On-chan stars in animated works: the 1999 mini-series "On-chan Anime Ippoi" (20 commercial spots), the 2003 TV special "On-chan's Dream Power Adventure!" for HTB's 35th anniversary, and the 2008 26-episode series "Yume Miru, Anime on-chan," featuring five-minute comedic adventures. His cultural presence includes merchandise, statues at HTB sites, integration into HTB’s digital broadcasting identifiers, and community features like Peaceful Takadai Park's on-chan HILLS.
