Description
Isuke Matsukawa serves as the manager of the Mankai Company, a position he holds despite being largely responsible for the theater plunging into significant debt. His appearance is as unkempt as his financial records, characterized by messy dark brown hair, light stubble, noticeable bags under his eyes, and a perpetually shabby green blazer with yellow accents that he pairs with a striped shirt and a red-and-white polka dot bow tie. Standing at 173 centimeters tall, with a birthday on May 3rd and blood type A, Matsukawa is a man in his late twenties whose outer dishevelment belies a deep and genuine passion for the theater.

In terms of personality, Matsukawa is a complex figure who presents as both a hopeless comic relief and the unwavering heart of the company. On the surface, he is cheerful, prone to joking, and seemingly lazy, often lacking a sense of shame or basic威严. He is frequently the target of teasing from troupe members, who see him as unreliable and lacking in charisma. Despite this, he possesses a surprisingly kind and empathetic nature, coupled with an unshakeable belief that the Mankai Company can and must be saved. He never loses hope for the theater, even when everyone else is on the verge of giving up, and his dedication is rooted in a profound sense of responsibility to protect the legacy of the company.

Matsukawa’s role in the story is that of a crucial catalyst. As the current manager, he was a loyal supporter of the剧团 founder, Yuki Tachibana, who disappeared eight years prior. In a last-ditch effort to prevent the theater from being demolished by debtor Sakyo Furuichi, Matsukawa sent a desperate letter to the missing founder for help. This action inadvertently brought the founder’s daughter, Izumi Tachibana, to the theater, setting the entire plot of the剧团's revival into motion. On the day Izumi arrives, Matsukawa dramatically intervenes to stop the demolition, insisting that a performance is about to begin even though there are no tickets sold and only minutes until the curtain rises. This chaotic determination leads to the first, bizarrely memorable performance of the new troupe, serving as the unconventional starting point for their journey.

Regarding his key relationships, Matsukawa is deeply connected to the theater’s past. He maintains trusted friendships with founding-era members like carpenter Tetsuro Iwai and veteran actor Yuzo Kashima, frequently asking the latter to help train new actors. He also lives in the theater’s attic with his pet parrot, Kamekichi, whom he considers his best friend despite their bickering. In a unique quirk, Matsukawa is one of the few characters who can understand and communicate with Tetsuro, who is primarily nonverbal. He acts as a nurturing figure to the younger generation of actors, such as Azami Izumida and Juza Hyodo, patiently teaching them instruments and guiding them with a gentle, almost parental care.

Matsukawa possesses several notable abilities that stand in stark contrast to his otherwise bumbling nature. He is exceptionally gifted in music, able to play almost any instrument, compose, and produce music on a desktop, a talent honed since his student band days. His skill is so respected that the剧团’s own sound manager calls him a genius, and he has a pleasant singing voice, often performing the song Our Bond. He is also a multi-talented behind-the-scenes worker, capable of handling scripts, direction,道具, and costumes to support the company. However, his creative confidence fails spectacularly in the kitchen, where his cooking is legendary for being terrifying and inedible, often described by the cast as a food terror or the start of a curry legend.

Throughout the series, Matsukawa shows subtle development not through a dramatic personality change, but through the gradual revelation of his steadfast loyalty. He is the one person who never abandoned the theater, remaining at his post through debt, neglect, and the disappearance of its founder. A notable moment that highlights his hidden depths occurs during an April Fools event, where he removes his signature glasses and appears as the Prince of April First, adopting a charismatic and handsome persona that momentarily stuns everyone who knows him. This alternate version, along with his backstage stories, reveals a different side of his character, proving that his sloppy manager guise is only one facet of a deeply devoted and surprisingly talented individual.
