Description
Karina Komiya began her career as an entertainer at age four, guided by the Sibyl System. By twelve, she joined the Sibyl-approved idol group Existence. The group disbanded when other members were identified as latent criminals, leaving Komiya as the sole unaffected member. At seventeen, she launched a successful solo career, achieving major celebrity status across fashion, music, and mental health industries. After her song "Fire Burning Woman" won an Asia Grammy Award, she retired from music to enter politics, running for Governor of Tokyo as an independent candidate with the Affirmation Party.

She hired Professor Kojo Tsuchiya to lead her psychological care staff, utilizing his research on cognitive loads. Tsuchiya created an advanced AI doppelganger named Ma-Karina, designed in Komiya's image to enhance her election campaign. Using holographic technology, Ma-Karina mimicked Komiya's behavior, mannerisms, and vocal inflections, acting as a strategic tool to optimize public perception and voter engagement. Komiya initially accepted this arrangement to win but developed genuine care for Ma-Karina, viewing it as both an extension of herself and an individual. She sympathized with Ma-Karina's role as a surrogate for Tsuchiya's deceased daughter and shared the AI's wish for Tsuchiya to heal from his grief. Komiya constantly wore a necklace containing Ma-Karina's master data access key (black box).

During the gubernatorial campaign, Komiya faced assassination attempts orchestrated by the criminal organization Bifrost, leading Unit One of the Public Safety Bureau, particularly Inspector Arata Shindo, to serve as her bodyguard. Komiya relied on Ma-Karina to dictate her words, tone, and facial expressions via holographic projections during public engagements. This precision caused Shindo to initially misidentify her as a trained mentalist. The public eventually learned of her AI usage, though this revelation did not significantly impact her popularity, reflecting societal acceptance of AI-assisted decision-making.

In the climax of Bifrost's assault on the Public Safety Bureau headquarters, Komiya and analyst Shion Karanomori were targeted. To counter terrorist demands for her resignation, Public Security faked Komiya's death using Ma-Karina as a decoy. Komiya later publicly attributed the attack to domestic anti-Sibyl terrorists, reaffirming her political standing. Ma-Karina's data was subsequently utilized by Bifrost member Shizuka Homura to dismantle the organization, though Komiya's direct involvement in this outcome was minimal.

Komiya's personality combines charisma, calculation, and introspection. She presents as cheerful and charismatic but possesses bluntness and ruthlessness when necessary. Arata Shindo noted her proficiency in mentalism, later attributed to Ma-Karina's influence. Despite her success, Komiya expressed regret over hurting others in her rise to power, self-identifying as "evil." Her relationship with Tsuchiya evolved from professional trust to concern over his obsessive behavior, though she understood his motivations stemmed from grief and sought his healing. Komiya also formed a bond with Shindo, who recognized her underlying kindness despite her self-assessment.
