Description
Makoto Okano is the main protagonist of Wind: A Breath of Heart. He was born in Kazune City and spent his early childhood there with his younger sister Hinata and their childhood friend Minamo Narukaze. After the death of his father, his family moved away from Kazune. Before a second move, he gave Minamo a harmonica and made a pinky promise to meet again someday and marry. Ten years later, Makoto and Hinata return to Kazune and enroll at the local high school, where he reunites with Minamo and reconnects with friends including Tsutomu Tachibana and Kasumi Shikouin.
Makoto is impulsive and compassionate, often acting without fully considering the consequences but driven by a deep empathy for others. His tendency to act on instinct garners respect and bewilderment from the more methodical Hikari Tsukishiro. Despite his outward spontaneity, he has a sensitive and reflective nature and is musically inclined, playing piano and composing music. He possesses a unique ability to travel through time and space, a power that becomes crucial to understanding the mysteries of Kazune City.
His motivations center on protecting his friends and uncovering the truth behind the supernatural phenomena in the town, including a series of murders and disappearances. He forms deep bonds with multiple characters: his childhood promise with Minamo shapes a growing romantic relationship; his sister Hinata is an energetic and playful presence; his friendship with Tsutomu provides levity; and his interactions with Hikari challenge him intellectually and emotionally. Over the course of the story, Makoto develops from a carefree transfer student into a courageous hero willing to risk everything to save those he loves, using his time-travel ability to seek a resolution that brings happiness to all.
