Description
Futaba Sakura endured severe trauma after her mother Wakaba Isshiki's death. Manipulation led her to believe she caused her mother's suicide through a forged note, resulting in crippling social anxiety, agoraphobia, and suicidal depression. She became a shut-in, rarely leaving her room and not attending school. Adopted by Sojiro Sakura to protect her from an abusive uncle, she developed exceptional hacking skills under the alias Medjed, later abandoning hacktivism to operate as Alibaba.

Her unresolved trauma formed a Palace in the Metaverse—a desert tomb ruled by a cognitive Wakaba sphinx and a Shadow self embodying her repressed emotions. The Phantom Thieves infiltrated this Palace at her anonymous request, initially issued under threat of exposure. During their mission, recovered memories hinted at foul play in her mother's death, triggering her awakening to the Persona Necronomicon (later Prometheus). This Persona provided navigational and combat support, enabling the Thieves to defeat the cognitive Wakaba. This victory helped Futaba confront her guilt and accept her mother's love.

Following this change of heart, Futaba joined the Phantom Thieves permanently as their navigator, Oracle. She delivered vital technical support, including hacking operations against antagonists like the fake Medjed. Her primary drive shifted to uncovering the truth behind her mother's death, eventually revealed as orchestrated by Masayoshi Shido and executed by Goro Akechi. While lacking direct combat skills, her role encompassed reconnaissance, system analysis, and tactical guidance during Palace infiltrations.

Supported by the Phantom Thieves, especially the protagonist, Futaba gradually overcame her social isolation. She started venturing outside, though initially hid behind others or wore masks in public. Her personality revealed a playful, teasing side, often directed at teammates Ryuji Sakamoto and Yusuke Kitagawa. She maintained her interests in gaming, anime, and digital culture, reflected in her casual clothing featuring pixel art and tech-inspired designs.

In later adventures, like *Persona 5 Strikers*, she traveled with the group during summer vacations, though crowded or overwhelming environments still caused discomfort. Her navigational skills remained essential against new threats in the evolving Metaverse. She also appeared in non-canonical scenarios such as *Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight*, showcasing her continued social growth.

Regarding *PERSONA 5 the Animation: Proof of Justice*, this OVA centers on Goro Akechi's aftermath and Ren Amamiya's investigation into Shido's hospitalization.

Her character arc concludes with her living with Sojiro, attending school intermittently, and maintaining her role within the Phantom Thieves. She expresses farewells with the phrase "salad bar," a linguistic quirk stemming from a misinterpretation of "saraba da" (goodbye), which became a signature trait in appearances like *Persona 5 Strikers*.
