Description
Akari Kawamoto is the eldest of the three Kawamoto sisters and the primary caregiver for her younger siblings, Hinata and Momo, following the death of their mother and grandmother and the absence of their father. She lives with her grandfather in Sangatsucho, also known as March Town, and works to support the family by helping at his traditional Japanese confectionery shop, Mikazuki-do, as well as working as a hostess several nights a week at her aunt’s bar in the Ginza district. Her name signifies light, and she is a beautiful young woman with dark chocolate-brown hair often styled in a low side ponytail and lilac-colored eyes. Akari has a profoundly nurturing nature and a maternal instinct that extends beyond her sisters; she cannot ignore anyone or anything that appears lost or skinny, which leads her to take in the protagonist, Rei Kiriyama, after finding him collapsed on the street. She continually invites him into her home to provide the familial warmth he lacks, worries about his unhealthy solitary lifestyle, and is an excellent cook. To preserve the memory of her late mother and comfort her sisters, Akari consciously adopted her mother’s mannerisms and speech patterns. While she usually maintains a composed and cheerful demeanor, she experiences genuine distress during times of family crisis, such as when Hinata becomes the target of bullying. Her primary goal is to maintain a stable, loving home, and she aspires one day to take over the family confectionery business. Despite her responsibility and prudent financial management, she struggles with portion control and calorie awareness, leading to weight gain that her aunt occasionally comments on. She has a unique fondness for Rei’s rival, Harunobu Nikaidou, whose large build she found mesmerizing when they first met. Her profound capacity for empathy and caregiving makes her an emotional anchor for her sisters and for Rei.
