ONA
Description
Arashi Aota, whose name merges “storm” and “green paddy,” was a seventeen-year-old from Suginami, Tokyo, born in October. His adolescence was fractured by his mother’s death during his high school years, leading him to rely on the family of his childhood friend and girlfriend, Hana Sugurono, while his relationship with his father remained cold and distant. A former Olympic-hopeful swimmer with a tall, athletic build, he later repurposed his aquatic skills for scavenging submerged ruins. A childhood memory of swarming crickets during a storm left him with a lasting insect phobia. His fierce protectiveness surfaced when he nearly killed boys assaulting Hana, exposing a volatile rage beneath his compassionate demeanor. He joined Team Summer B, a group for societal misfits, due to his bond with Hana of Team Spring. Awakening in a post-apocalyptic world, he spiraled into despair upon mistakenly believing Hana dead and attempted suicide by drowning, only to be rescued by Aramaki’s dogs and rallied by Natsu Iwashimizu and Semimaru Asai. His journey spanned deserts, ruins, and threats such as carnivorous beasts and environmental dangers. Aboard the ghost ship Fuji, he dismantled a doomsday countdown targeting Japan’s remnants, cementing his role as a defender of humanity. Though his trusting demeanor sometimes backfired, leaving him prone to guilt over harshness toward Aramaki during his darkest moments, his knack for fostering hope and unity became his hallmark. He nurtured Natsu’s confidence while quietly nudging her toward Semimaru, despite her unreciprocated feelings for him, and his devotion to Hana endured separation. His appearance shifted from neatly groomed to longer hair tied with a bandana. Charismatic, diligent, and justice-driven, his self-righteous streaks sparked friction, yet he adamantly refused weapons, believing their use invites retaliation. He carried a weathered copy of Robinson Crusoe and observed self-imposed disciplinary rituals, balancing resilience, loyalty, and a precarious grip on hope in a shattered world.
