Description
Shizuka Hattori is a 14-year-old officer cadet from Fuso, serving in the Fuso Imperial Navy. Born into a military family, she cultivated a strong sense of duty and strict adherence to rules early on. After her father's untimely death, she diligently worked to support her family independently. As a first-year student at the Fuso Imperial Navy Military Academy, she trained under Mio Sakamoto and harbored deep admiration for Yoshika Miyafuji, viewing her as an idol and aspiring to become a Witch. Shizuka meticulously maintained an album of newspaper clippings about the 501st Joint Fighter Wing, considering them legendary figures.

Her initial encounter with Yoshika occurred during events depicted in the movie, when Shizuka was assigned to escort Yoshika to Europe for medical studies aboard the Amagi. She strongly disapproved of Yoshika's behavior during the voyage, particularly her minimal luggage as a doctor and her participation in menial tasks like cooking and cleaning, believing it unbecoming of Yoshika's rank. During a fire emergency, Shizuka attempted to rescue a trapped senior officer but followed orders to flood the compartment when rescue seemed impossible. She was outraged when Yoshika disregarded the order and saved the officer, leading to a period of estrangement.

Upon arriving in Europe, Shizuka faced her first real combat engagement against the Neuroi. Overwhelmed and knocked unconscious during the attack, she awoke to find Yoshika severely injured. Shizuka alerted the 501st, who intervened to defeat the Neuroi mothership. This experience exposed her lack of practical combat experience, having previously relied on reciting training exercises to manage nervousness, and her combat skills were further challenged.

Following these events and Mio Sakamoto's retirement, Shizuka transferred to the 501st Joint Fighter Wing. She underwent training under Gertrud Barkhorn and participated in missions, including one to Nederland with Yoshika and Perrine H. Clostermann to protect a rare blue tulip, the "Queen of Nederland," from Neuroi threats. During Operation Southwind—the assault on the Neuroi nest above Berlin—Commander Minna-Dietlinde Wilcke ordered Shizuka to remain behind due to the operation's extreme danger. Disobeying direct orders, she intervened to save Yoshika from peril but was shot down by a Neuroi and critically injured. This triggered Yoshika's resurgence of magical abilities, enabling her to heal Shizuka before rejoining the battle.

Personality-wise, Shizuka exhibited inflexible rule-following tendencies stemming from her military upbringing, initially clashing with those like Yoshika who deviated from protocol. She possessed confidence in her disciplined approach but acknowledged superiors and recognized the 501st's prowess after witnessing them in action. Though fundamentally compassionate and willing to aid others, she prioritized orders over personal initiative until her experiences with Yoshika began reshaping her perspective. Her magical abilities manifested with Shikoku dog ears and tail when activated. In combat, she piloted a Striker Unit modeled after the N1K2-J Shiden-Kai fighter aircraft, reflecting her historical inspiration from ace pilot Utou Kazushi, whose name reversed forms "Shizuka Hattori".
