Description
Kōji Ibuki first appeared as an elementary school classmate of Taishi Miwa and Toshiki Kai. He possessed a quiet, gentle personality and attempted to make friends through Cardfight!! Vanguard, deliberately holding back during matches to let others win, believing this would increase their enjoyment. This strategy backfired, fostering resentment from other players and reinforcing his loner disposition.

Extradimensional entities known as the Deletors corrupted his memories, transforming him into the primary antagonist of the film *Cardfight!! Vanguard Movie: Neon Messiah*. Manipulated by Oksizz, he gained the ability to delete Vanguard units and actively sought to destroy both Vanguard and the worlds connected to it—Earth and Cray. His defeat by Aichi Sendou and Kai Toshiki, coupled with the intervention of Harmonics Messiah, restored his memories.

He later embarked on global travels. During this time, he encountered Rive Shindou, Chrono Shindou's father. Rive shared details about his past conflicts with Ryuzu Myoujin and entrusted Ibuki with Gear Chronicle clan cards and three Depend Cards. His mission was to ensure Chrono's growth into a fighter capable of confronting Ryuzu. To fulfill this objective, he infiltrated the Vanguard Association by becoming the coach of Team Demise and acting as an underling to Kanzaki.

In *Cardfight!! Vanguard G*, he surfaced as an employee at FIVA's United Sanctuary Branch. His first significant interaction involved testing Chrono Shindou's skills using the Grand Image Advanced System (GIAS), where he utilized a Kagero deck and deliberately provoked Chrono, criticizing his tactics and solitary nature. The duel ended abruptly due to system failure.

His role expanded as a sponsor of the Under20 championship and a figure within the United Sanctuary hierarchy. He later confronted Chrono at Card Capital 2 after Chrono quit Vanguard, revealing his primary clan was Link Joker. He defeated Chrono while imparting lessons about life's imperfections, yet allowed him to retain the Gear Chronicle deck.

During Team TRY3's match against Team Demise, Kamui Katsuragi confronted him, bearing a grudge for Ibuki's role in the near-catastrophic Messiah Scramble event. Ibuki cardfought Kamui using Neon Messiah and demonstrated Link Joker's ability to unlock units. Kamui sensed no malice in his actions but remained distrustful.

Ibuki orchestrated the theft of a Depend card from United Sanctuary labs, instructing Kamui to deliver it to Chrono. This led to a confrontation with Shouma Shinonome, whom he dismissed as insignificant. He then tested Chrono's resolve in a decisive cardfight. Though he initially dominated, Chrono's persistence and tactical shift led to Ibuki's defeat. Following this loss, he revealed Ryuzu Myoujin as the true threat to Earth and Cray and disclosed his role as the anonymous benefactor who supplied Chrono with the initial Gear Chronicle cards and map to Card Capital 2.

During the Stride Gate arc, upon locating Ryuzu's headquarters, he implemented "Plan G." He assembled a team including Chrono, Shion, Tokoha, and Kamui to infiltrate the lab and recover the Depend Cards and summoned units. The team faced opposition from Ryuzu's defense force, "The Company," resulting in their separation. Ibuki and Chrono confronted Ryuzu directly, learning of his plan to gather Zodiac Time Beasts to open the Stride Gate. After Ryuzu's physical demise and subsequent reincarnation, Ibuki continued coordinating efforts against Ryuzu's faction.

His physical appearance evolved. As a child, he had short hair with bangs covering his right eye and wore simple attire. By high school at Fukuhara High, he grew taller with longer hair, often wearing a distinctive white coat trimmed with red and charcoal gray over a dark violet shirt, along with a gorget that later bore a cut from a confrontation with Chrono. His personality shifted from reserved and antagonistic to a somewhat more casual demeanor around Mamoru Anjou, though traces of coldness remained, especially with Chrono.

Beyond cardfighting, he displayed notable physical combat abilities, incapacitating multiple United Sanctuary employees and striking down Shouma Shinonome.
