Description
Elena Amamiya is a fourteen-year-old third-year middle school student who transforms into Cure Soleil, the Precure of the Sun. She comes from a multicultural family, with a Mexican father named Carlos and a Japanese mother named Kaede, and she has six younger siblings. The family runs a flower shop called Sonrisa in the local shopping district, where Elena often helps out and looks after her brothers and sisters. Her mixed heritage gives her a distinct appearance with blonde hair and brown skin, and thanks to her father's background and her mother's work as an interpreter, she has a talent for languages.

Elena is widely known as the sun of Mihoshi Middle School, a title that reflects her bright, cheerful, and radiant personality. She is incredibly popular among her peers, admired for her athletic abilities, her skill at housework and cooking, and her consistently good grades. Her natural athleticism is exceptional, demonstrated through gymnastic-level acrobatics, powerful soccer-style kicks, and remarkable physical strength. Despite receiving many scouting offers from sports clubs, she declines them all, as her priority is to help her family and care for her younger siblings. Her cheerful greetings often include the phrase Ciao, and she is known for her warm, effortless smile.

At her core, Elena is motivated by a desire to protect the smiles of those around her. Her family, her friends, and even the customers at the flower shop are all people whose happiness she wishes to safeguard. This sense of responsibility is largely shaped by her role as the eldest sister in a large family, where she often steps in to fill a parental role for her younger siblings while her parents are busy. This maturity makes her a grounded and reliable presence within the group of Precures, often acting as a source of advice and encouragement. She possesses a strong personal philosophy that having more things to protect does not create more weaknesses, but instead makes a person stronger.

In the story, Elena becomes a Precure after witnessing Hikaru Hoshina and Lala Hagoromo fighting to protect a small creature named Fuwa. Seeing Fuwa, who had brought smiles to her younger siblings, in danger, she mustered her courage and rescued it. Her strong desire to protect everyone's smile caused her Star Color Pendant to activate, transforming her into Cure Soleil for the first time. As a member of the Star Twinkle Precure team, she travels through space alongside Hikaru, Lala, Madoka Kaguya, and later Yuni to collect the Princess Star Color Pens and restore the scattered power of the Star Princesses.

Elena shares a particularly notable relationship with her classmate Madoka Kaguya, who transforms into Cure Selene. While Elena is called the sun of the school, Madoka is known as the moon, and the two are often seen together as a pair of school idols. Initially, they were simply classmates with little personal connection, but becoming Precure colleagues brings them much closer, and they frequently support one another in battle and in moments of personal doubt. Elena also shares a strong bond with Lala, and she is a caring and supportive figure for the more energetic Hikaru. Her family relationships are central to her character, as she deeply loves her many siblings and often sacrifices her own time to care for them.

Over the course of the series, Elena appears to be a perfectly cheerful and mature individual, but she undergoes significant development when this very trait is challenged. It is revealed that her constant smile may sometimes be a mask, worn to hide her own difficult feelings and to play the role of a dependable adult for her busy mother and lonely younger siblings. This internal conflict comes to a head in the latter part of the story, where she begins to question whether always smiling is truly the answer. Through confrontations with characters like Tenjou, who despise false smiles, Elena learns to accept that while some smiles can hide pain, genuine smiles born from true happiness are still worth protecting. Her development highlights that her maturity, while genuine, is also a conscious effort, and she ultimately grows to embrace her own feelings more honestly.

As Cure Soleil, her powers are themed around the sun and fire. Her fighting style heavily emphasizes powerful kicks, often enhanced with flames. Her primary individual attack is the Soleil Shoot, where she creates a ball of fire and kicks it at her enemies with great force. Alongside the other Cures, she can perform a powerful group attack called the Southern Cross Shot using the Twinkle Stick. She can also use her Star Color Pens to access form changes based on constellations, such as her Libra form, which she uses in the series' film. Her civilian athleticism carries over into her combat as a Precure, making her an exceptionally agile and formidable hand-to-hand fighter.
