Description
Hikaru Hoshina, a 13-year-old second-year at Mihoshi Middle School, lives with her mother, a mangaka, and her grandparents while her father travels the world studying unidentified mysterious animals. This upbringing fuels her fascination with space and cryptids. She inherits his signature "Twincool~☆" phrase and shares her mother's artistic inclinations. Her civilian look features hot pink eyes and short-medium curled hair styled in twin-tails with yellow spherical accessories, often paired with denim overalls and star-themed items like a blue headband with star ornaments. She carries the Star Color Pendant.
While stargazing, Hikaru sketched a constellation that unexpectedly materialized Fuwa, a celestial fairy. Protecting Fuwa from Notraider attackers triggered her transformation into Cure Star using the Star Color Pendant and Transformation Star Color Pen, driven by her determination to save the fairy. As Cure Star, she leads the Star Twinkle Pretty Cure team, later joined by four others. Her Cure form boasts thigh-length pink hair with planetary buns, a fuchsia-and-pink dress adorned with sakura petals, asymmetrical elements like a single leg stocking, and star motifs. She accesses Zodiac-based forms such as Taurus (featuring bull horns and a spotted skirt) and Pisces (with a mermaid tail) using Princess Star Color Pens. Her signature "Star Punch" attack gains altered colors and properties when enhanced by these zodiac pens.
Hikaru exhibits curiosity, imagination, and occasional stubbornness. She dives enthusiastically into her interests but can sometimes overlook others' boundaries, learning to prioritize friendships over time. Key relationships include bonding with Lala Hagoromo (Cure Milky) despite initial cultural clashes; a protective, maternal dynamic with Fuwa, leading to devastation when Fuwa temporarily died and later suffered amnesia; respect for school idols Elena Amamiya and Madoka Kaguya, aiding Madoka's self-acceptance; persistently reaching out to the initially aloof Yuni (Cure Cosmo); and a childhood friendship with astronomy enthusiast Sorami Ryoutarou.
Her story involves collecting 12 Princess Star Color Pens to revive the Star Princesses and prevent universal darkness. Critical developments include Fuwa evolving into a unicorn, Fuwa's sacrificial attempt to defeat Ophiuchus (which initially failed), and the team ultimately restoring the universe. Post-series, Hikaru achieves her dream of becoming an astronaut, sporting shorter hair with a turquoise streak honoring Lala. She reunites with Fuwa, who regains her memories and powers. Her name reflects her themes: "Hoshina" (星奈) combines "star" (星) with a phonetic suffix, and "Hikaru" (ひかる) means "light," aligning with her identity as Cure Star, the Pretty Cure of Stars.
