Description
Yoshiko Tsushima, known as Yohane, began as a first-year at Uranohoshi Girls' High School before its closure led her to transfer to Numazu High School. A Numazu native, she attended kindergarten with Hanamaru Kunikida, whom she nicknames "Zuramaru". Her mother is a teacher.
Yoshiko fully embraces the persona of "Yohane", a self-proclaimed fallen angel cast from heaven for angering God. She blames this divine punishment for her extreme bad luck—unexpected rain, frequent falls, or falling ill before exams. This chuunibyou behavior manifests in gothic, devil-inspired clothing and a dramatic, lower-pitched voice as Yohane. She insists others call her Yohane, even crossing out her real name during introductions. Despite this flamboyant exterior, she secretly cringes at her own antics and initially avoids school to escape ridicule, craving normalcy.
Her internal struggle between wanting acceptance and maintaining the Yohane identity defines her growth. Invited by Chika Takami to join Aqours, Yoshiko temporarily quits when her "fallen angel" theme causes trouble with the student council. She rejoins after the group affirms their acceptance of her true self. Through Aqours, she integrates the Yohane persona into her identity, recognizing it as intrinsic, not a burden. She affectionately dubs her friends "little demons," especially Riko Sakurauchi, nicknamed "Little Demon Lili". Her kindness surfaces when she helps Riko overcome a fear of dogs during a rescue mission.
As a member of Guilty Kiss, her eccentric style shapes the subunit's aesthetic, contributing to themes like "Shadow gate to love". She also participates in the subunit YYY. Beyond her dramatic persona, she demonstrates intelligence through video editing, streaming skills, and magic tricks. She handles Aqours' video production and excels at rhythm, fighting, and racing games.
Her hobbies include online streaming as a "little devil" fortune-teller, watching tearjerker films (tragic romances or protagonist deaths), and moderate horror (excluding zombies). She favors chocolate, strawberries, and extremely spicy food, often adding excessive hot sauce, but dislikes oranges and coffee.
In the movie *Over the Rainbow*, Yoshiko travels to Italy with Aqours to search for missing members, providing both comic relief and emotional support. Ironically, her name "Yoshiko" means "good life child," contrasting her claimed misfortune, while "Yohane" (from "John") means "God is gracious". Originally conceptualized as a second-year student, her finalized first-year status highlights her initial self-doubt and subsequent growth.
