Description
Honoka Kōsaka is a second-year student at Otonokizaka High School and the founding member and leader of the school idol group μ's. She lives with her family, who operate a long-established Japanese sweets shop called Homura, a background that has given her a strong distaste for red bean paste while fueling a great love for bread and strawberries. Her closest relationships since childhood have been with Umi Sonoda and Kotori Minami, and she is friends with other students at school. While generally unremarkable in academic performance, she possesses a peculiar knack for sometimes finding money on the street.

Honoka is defined by an extraordinarily optimistic and determined personality, always wearing a bright smile and approaching life with boundless energy. She tends to act on intuition and whim, but once she decides on a goal, she charges forward with a single-minded persistence that nothing can stop. This "never-give-up" attitude is her defining trait, driving her to pursue whatever she desires simply because she believes it will be fun and worthwhile. This enthusiasm is highly infectious, as she genuinely believes that activities are more enjoyable when shared with friends, and she has a natural charisma that pulls others into her orbit. Her positive outlook often veers into impulsiveness and a tendency to act without fully thinking things through, earning her a reputation for being a bit of a clumsy airhead.

Her primary motivation and the central catalyst of the story is her powerful love for her school. Upon learning that Otonokizaka Academy was facing closure due to low enrollment, she was determined to find a way to save it. Inspired by the school idol group A-RISE she saw at the prestigious UTX Academy, she became convinced that forming her own idol group was the only viable solution to increase the school's popularity and attract new students. This vision was not shared by everyone; she faced initial opposition from the student council president, Eli Ayase, and had to persistently convince her reluctant friends, particularly Umi, to join her. Her role is not simply that of a leader, but the emotional core and engine of μ's, providing the initial spark and relentless drive that transforms a vague idea into a reality.

Throughout the group's journey, Honoka experiences significant personal development that revolves around learning the true meaning of teamwork. Her core belief that she can accomplish anything if she tries hard enough is a powerful asset but also a fatal flaw. This mindset places the entire burden of success on her own shoulders, leading her to push herself to the point of physical exhaustion before a crucial competition, which directly results in a critical failure. This failure forces her to confront the limits of her individualistic approach. She learns that μ's is not just her project, but a group that exists only when all nine members function as one. The key lesson is that she does not always have to pull everyone forward; it is acceptable, and necessary, to rely on others and allow them to push her forward as well. This realization helps her grow from a girl who simply drags people along on her whims to a true leader who understands the collective strength of her team.

In terms of abilities, Honoka is not a natural prodigy at singing or dancing. Her primary strengths are her high levels of physical stamina and her sheer, unyielding determination. She can overcome academic difficulties through intense, focused effort when a goal is at stake, as demonstrated when she passed exams that threatened her eligibility to compete. While not a composer or lyricist, her specific talents include drawing, evidenced by her creating promotional art for μ's, and in some adaptations, she is a skilled kendo practitioner. Ultimately, her most notable ability is her power to inspire and unite people, a charisma that is more impactful than any technical skill.
