Description
Nozomi Tōjō is a third-year student at Otonokizaka High School and a member of the school idol group μ's, where her image color is violet and she belongs to the subunit lily white. Initially the student council vice-president working alongside president Eli Ayase, she later passes this role to Umi Sonoda.
She speaks with a distinctive Kansai dialect, adopted despite not originating from that region. Her childhood involved frequent relocations due to her parents' work, leading to social isolation and shyness. Settling in Tokyo allowed her to form her first meaningful friendship with Eli, helping overcome her reluctance to interact. She adopted the dialect to align with her interest in supernatural themes and demonstrates multilingual abilities, including fluency in English.
Combining serenity with mischief, Nozomi acts as μ's eldest member and spiritual advisor. She frequently uses self-taught tarot card fortune-telling, a skill developed to adapt to new environments, offering calm, insightful guidance during the group's challenges. Her playful side includes administering "washi washi," a punishment involving groping other members' breasts, often targeting Nico Yazawa. Deeply valuing μ's bonds, she considers their unity a "miracle" given her previously transient life.
Nozomi played a pivotal behind-the-scenes role in μ's formation. She covertly supported Honoka Kōsaka's efforts to establish the group, circumventing Eli's initial opposition, later joining alongside Eli and revealing her long-held desire to collaborate with friends. She named the group "μ's" (Muse) after the nine Greek goddesses of the arts, foreseeing the eventual nine members. Her strategic insights helped unify the group, such as facilitating Maki Nishikino's integration by addressing her solitary tendencies.
Her development emphasizes a transition from lonely outsider to someone cherishing communal bonds. She expresses a wistful desire in the movie for all nine members to live together like a family, humorously envisioning Eli as the "father" and herself as the "mother." Her hobbies include napping, visiting power spots, assisting at Kanda Shrine, and organizing group activities like hot pot meals. She enjoys eating bread—particularly melon and cream bread—and drinking grape juice, often joking about its resemblance to wine.
In later media, Nozomi reflects on small miracles in daily life, attributing significance to events like crane game victories or waking before alarms. She advocates for joy in communal experiences like summer festivals, linking them to ancestral traditions. Her self-professed "greedy" nature surfaces in lighthearted fortune-telling wishes, though she prioritizes loved ones' happiness in sincere moments.
Visually, Nozomi has hip-length dark purple hair typically tied in low pigtails, turquoise eyes, and a slim build, often wearing a purple ribbon and earrings. She stands 158–159 cm tall, with a consistent design emphasizing her spiritually attuned role.
