Description
Doremi Harukaze begins as an ordinary elementary school student whose accidental discovery of a witch's secret forces her into becoming a witch apprentice. Clumsy, impulsive, and prone to low self-esteem, she often labels herself "the world's unluckiest pretty girl" during setbacks. Her persistent curiosity and genuine good intentions drive her actions, though her nosiness and emotional outbursts frequently lead to misunderstandings.

Her appearance is marked by distinctive red hair styled in twin buns secured with pink scrunchies, one featuring a yellow music note. In "Motto! Ojamajo Doremi," she typically wears a carnation pink T-shirt, a purple zipped vest, lilac shorts, knee-length socks, and white-laced sneakers. Her design evolves across seasons while maintaining a vibrant, youthful aesthetic.

As a witch apprentice, Doremi uses pink-themed magic. Her spells include "Pretty Witch Doremicchi!" for transformation and "Pirika Pirilala Poporina Peperuto!" for casting, though distractions or strong emotions often cause her magic to misfire, reflecting her personality. She wields a pink bean-shaped crystal ball and partners with the fairy Dodo. Her motivations shift from self-focus to responsibilities like caring for the witch baby Hana, whom she comes to consider a daughter.

Key relationships define her growth: her closest friends since kindergarten, Hazuki Fujiwara and Aiko Senoo, provide both encouragement and grounding advice. Her initial rivalry with Onpu Segawa evolves into a deep friendship, showcasing Doremi's capacity for forgiveness. Contentious interactions with her younger sister Pop gradually transform into mutual respect and protectiveness. In "Motto!," she mentors Momoko Asuka, helping her adjust culturally while bonding over shared traits. Her dedicated care for Hana drives significant maturation, particularly when overcoming Hana's vegetable-hating curse to restore the baby's magic.

Background reveals her childhood interest in magic and piano, though a recital failure ended her musical pursuit. Early jealousy toward Pop stemmed from comparisons, but their relationship improves through shared witch apprenticeship.

In "Ojamajo Doremi Dokkān!," Doremi navigates pre-adolescence, experiencing romantic feelings for classmates Tetsuya Kotake and Akatsuki. She ultimately prioritizes emotional sincerity over magical shortcuts, leading to the group's decision to relinquish witchcraft to maintain human lifespans.

Later media expands her story: the OVA "Ojamajo Doremi Na-i-sho!" (set during "Motto!") explores her daily life and secrets. A light novel sequel portrays her as a high school student reuniting with friends and temporarily resuming magic studies before pursuing a teaching career. The 20th-anniversary film "Looking for Magical Doremi" depicts her indirect influence on adult fans rediscovering childhood wonder.

Her development spans overcoming personal flaws, embracing responsibility, and understanding that genuine effort surpasses magical solutions. The narrative maintains her core optimism while addressing mature themes like loss, prejudice, and self-acceptance through her experiences.
