Description
Seiji Minamoto is a detective in the First Investigation Section of the Machiyama Police Station. His most distinctive feature is his naturally curly hair, often compared by colleagues to broccoli or a "darn hairball." An unspoken superstition links his detective abilities to his long hair, though he remains unaware of this belief.

His background is marked by early trauma. His father, a police officer, died 27 years ago in the Okajima Disaster. After this loss, Minamoto was adopted by his maternal uncle. Frequent moves due to his father's job and caring for a chronically ill adoptive mother heightened his sensitivity to reading people's emotions. These experiences also fostered a deep-seated unease and distrust of women, stemming from interactions with both his biological and adoptive mothers. Takeshi Yamada is currently the only person he fully trusts.

Academically, Minamoto ranked last in his police academy class, where Seiko Fuji was his classmate. Despite poor academic performance, he possesses exceptional natural aptitude for fieldwork. He is renowned within the department as a "genius of interrogation," handling nearly all station interviews. His conversational style is often described as hypnotic, allowing him to quickly build rapport and extract information—a skill evident early when he apprehended three criminals via street interviews within his first three months. He holds an AAA ranking in the police fitness test (JAPPAT), excels at handling animals due to his rural upbringing, and has neat handwriting. However, he is a notably poor driver, frequently causing minor accidents in police vehicles.

Personality-wise, Minamoto displays high confidence in his communication skills, claiming he can persuade anyone within the time it takes to finish an ice cream stick. His sociable and friendly nature makes him popular within the community, sometimes prompting unnecessary calls to the police just to interact with him. This likability coexists with occasional obliviousness to others' feelings, leading some coworkers to question his depth.

Professionally, he maintains a light-hearted yet respectful dynamic with Seiko Fuji, collaborating effectively despite frequent arguments. His partnership with Takeshi Yamada is foundational, with Yamada being his sole confidant. He also enjoys strong rapport with older officers at local stations, many of whom have known him since childhood. He joined the Machiyama Police Station specifically at Fuji's request to assist in investigating Mai Kawai's hit-and-run case.
