Description
Yuniko Kozuki, who operates under the duel avatar Scarlet Rain, is a Level 9 Burst Linker and the second Red King, leading the Red Legion Prominence. She is an elementary school student attending a private school and lives in an orphanage.
Outwardly polite and caring with good manners and culinary skill, this cultivated demeanor masks a rude, easily frustrated true nature prone to violent outbursts. She maintains a strong rivalry with Kuroyukihime, beneath which exists a layer of mutual care. Although she often claims bonds between Burst Linkers are meaningless, her actions reveal a capacity for kindness and a persistent desire to believe in the parent-child bond. In combat, she exhibits a sadistic enjoyment of destroying opponents with heavy weaponry.
Her background includes seeking assistance from Haruyuki Arita to stop the fifth Chrome Disaster, who was her legion member and “parent,” Cherry Rook. They had both resided in the same orphanage, and she later expressed self-blame for his decision to equip the Armor of Catastrophe.
Yuniko is a small girl with red hair, typically worn in pigtails tied with blue bowties. Her eyes are sometimes depicted as red. She commonly wears a long-sleeved red and black striped shirt, ripped shorts, black stockings, and her signature blue bowties. Her duel avatar, Scarlet Rain, is red-themed and operates the Enhanced Armament “Invincible,” a massive artillery platform that delivers immense long-range firepower but immobilizes the user during deployment.
A significant story arc involves her infiltrating Haruyuki’s home by impersonating his cousin, Tomoko Saito. After her identity is uncovered, she challenges and wins a duel, then requests a meeting with Kuroyukihime. Her stated goal was to use Silver Crow’s flight ability to corral the fifth Chrome Disaster for a Judgement Blow, offering a temporary truce between their legions in return.
During the ensuing mission in the Unlimited Neutral Field, the group is ambushed by the Yellow King, Yellow Radio. In the confrontation with Chrome Disaster, she attacks Kuroyukihime while demanding that she and Haruyuki leave, again asserting that bonds are meaningless. However, she proves unable to deliver the Judgement Blow to Cherry Rook and requires rescue by Haruyuki. After Cherry Rook’s defeat, she reveals their personal relationship and blames herself for his actions.
She later seeks out Haruyuki to train Takumu Mayuzumi in the Incarnate System. Though initially reluctant, citing the affair as Nega Nebulus’s concern, she agrees based on a debt repaid from prior assistance. She conducts the training in the Unlimited Neutral Field, demonstrating two of the four Incarnate skills.
Her abilities include the Humongous Mecha “Invincible,” which combines five components into a long-range artillery platform capable of Macross Missile Massacre attacks. Her Incarnate skills involve Playing with Fire, such as the “Oven Ray” and “Pyro Planing,” which allows high-speed movement across melted terrain. A Charged Attack with her basic pistol, “Peace Maker,” grows more powerful with charging time. Additional skills include “Vision Extension” for gauging opponent strength and a “Flash Step” for rapid movement.
The Enhanced Armament “Invincible” was later stolen and corrupted by Cerberus III, who transformed it into a spiky purple bipedal form. After Cerberus became Wolfram Disaster, the mecha’s body grew sleek and organic, becoming unrecognizable from its original state.
In later events, she is kidnapped by Black Vise, prompting a rescue operation led by Haruyuki and others.
