TV-Series
Description
Lavenza serves as an attendant within the Velvet Room, a supernatural space guiding individuals capable of wielding Personas. Created by Igor before the narrative's events, she assists alongside her siblings Margaret, Elizabeth, and Theodore. The malevolent entity Yaldabaoth disrupted this role, imprisoning the real Igor and forcibly splitting Lavenza's soul into two incomplete beings: Caroline and Justine. This division erased their memories of their true nature. Yaldabaoth, disguised as Igor, manipulated them into viewing the protagonist, Ren Amamiya, as a dangerous prisoner requiring rehabilitation through punitive measures within a Velvet Room shaped like a prison. A fragment of Lavenza's consciousness escaped as a blue butterfly, subtly guiding Ren towards the truth of his situation and the looming threat.

Initially, Caroline and Justine act as Ren's jailers. Caroline exhibits a harsh, impatient, and aggressive demeanor, calling Ren "inmate" and physically forcing him into the cell. Justine maintains a calmer, detached attitude but similarly treats Ren with condescension. They perform Velvet Room functions: fusing Personas using guillotines or chainsaws, converting Personas into items via an electric chair, and transferring skills through gallows execution. They contact Ren when a Persona completes solitary confinement. As Ren progresses, they initiate the Strength Confidant, assigning specific Persona fusion tasks. Completing these fosters gradual respect and warmth, though Caroline often masks this with tsundere behavior.

A critical juncture occurs on December 24th. After Ren and his allies fail their initial confrontation with Yaldabaoth's true form, the Holy Grail, the fake Igor orders Caroline and Justine to execute Ren. Hesitating due to their developing bond, they allow Lavenza's butterfly consciousness to manifest partially. She reveals the deception: the Igor they serve is an imposter, their true master is imprisoned, and their purpose is to guide humanity, not punish it. Realizing their true nature, Caroline and Justine instruct Ren to fuse them back together. He complies, restoring Lavenza to her singular form. She denounces Yaldabaoth and aids Ren in rejecting the false god's corrupt deal. Later, after Yaldabaoth manipulates public cognition to erase the Phantom Thieves, Igor and Lavenza restore them within the Velvet Room. Lavenza explains Morgana's origins, Yaldabaoth's nature, and the path forward, opening the door to Shibuya for the final battle. During the ascent, she manages Velvet Room operations. Following Yaldabaoth's defeat, she bestows the World Arcana upon Ren, acknowledging his triumph over inner and external prisons, before the Velvet Room dissipates.

In *Persona 5 Royal*, Lavenza actively assists Ren during the Third Semester crisis instigated by Takuto Maruki. She contacts him after the Velvet Room reappears as a prison, reflecting his renewed confinement. She appears in the real world as a butterfly, leading him to Shujin's nurse's office. There, in her true form, she explains Maruki's reality-warping powers and the fusion of Tokyo and Mementos. Maintaining this form drains her energy significantly, causing her to fall asleep while waiting for the other Phantom Thieves. After briefing the group, she exhaustedly reverts to her butterfly form and returns to the Velvet Room. She also becomes accessible for hangout events.

Lavenza appears in various spin-off titles. In *Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight*, she freely splits into Caroline and Justine and reintegrates at will. In *Persona 5 Strikers*, she greets Ren in the Velvet Room on July 24th, expressing happiness at seeing him again but sadness that his presence signals new danger. She takes on Igor's role in his absence, managing Persona fusion and the Compendium. She provides Ren with specific challenges, such as fusing certain Personas or defeating powerful enemies, rewarding him with items. In *Persona 5 Tactica*, the Velvet Room resembles a foundry. Lavenza wears attire fitting this theme—a dark-tan welding mask, a brown leather welder's apron, blacksmithing tongs, and a hammer—while assisting Ren with Persona fusion.

Physically, Lavenza appears as a young girl with long platinum blonde hair and golden eyes. Her design evokes a Victorian-era or French maid, featuring a blue dress, black bloomers, a matching headband adorned with white butterfly ornaments and yellow roses, and spats covering her shoes. She carries a large book titled "Le Grimoire." This contrasts with Caroline and Justine's appearances. As twins, they share platinum blonde hair and yellow eyes but wear identical blue prison guard uniforms with black skirts, black eye patches marked with a "V" (over opposite eyes), and matching hats. Justine's hat reads "O-Y-O-O" and she has a long braid; Caroline's hat reads "X-M-R-N" and she wears her hair in buns. Combined, their hat lettering spells "OXYMORON." Justine carries a clipboard; Caroline wields an electric shock baton.

Personality-wise, Lavenza combines traits from her divided halves more maturely. She is generally polite, calm, and dedicated to her duties. She refers to Ren as "Trickster," showing respect and kindness. However, she retains a capacity for impatience and frustration, reminiscent of Caroline, particularly when explanations are interrupted or tasks fail. She possesses a mischievous streak, seen in moments like permitting others to sit at Igor's desk as a "forbidden ritual." She also tends to doze off easily on soft surfaces. In *Persona 5 Royal*, her battle style as an optional boss merges Caroline's aggression with Justine's calm speech into passive-aggressiveness. She develops deep affection for Ren, evident in New Game+ scenarios where she confesses her love, crediting his kindness to Caroline and Justine when they were lost and incomplete.

Her name derives from Elizabeth Lavenza, Victor Frankenstein's fiancée in Mary Shelley's *Frankenstein*.
