Description
Asaka Narumi is a character in the Cardfight!! Vanguard anime and manga. She debuted as a minor antagonist for the Foo Fighters organization, approaching cardfights with theatrical flair and treating battles as entertainment, often toying with opponents. Initially an ordinary cardfighter, she was scouted by Ren Suzugamori. After losing her introductory match to Kyou Yahagi, Ren consoled her, igniting an intense and singular devotion to him. Relentless training propelled her to Rank 3 of AL4, Foo Fighters' elite team, earning the alias "Assassin" for her Pale Moon deck strategy, which switches units in and out of the soul to enable more attacks per turn, treating each fight as a performance to captivate Ren.
One year before the series begins, Asaka encountered Ren at Foo Fighter headquarters, unaware he had recruited her. Discovering that Ren primarily focused on Toshiki Kai drove her resolve to surpass Kai and earn his acknowledgment. During the national tournament, she helped secure AL4's victory. In AL4's bout against Q4, she reversed the match by countering Misaki Tokura's Tsukuyomi strategy, prompting Misaki to rebuild her deck and seek a rematch. Asaka later lost this revenge match to Misaki. Following Ren's defeat and Foo Fighters' reformation, she was reinvited to AL4.
During the Asia Circuit's Seoul Stage, Asaka competed for Team New AL4. She defeated Misaki again by exploiting her predictable strategy and used Silver Thorn Dragon Tamer, Luquier to overcome Yuri Usui. Later, during an interdimensional conflict, she engaged in a tag duel with Ren against Sharlene and Jillian, interrupted by the fight table's collapse. Her fierce devotion to Ren led her to deliberately fail college admissions to stay in his academic year. She later fell under external control, becoming a PSYqualia Zombie. Even infected, her attachment to Ren created intense internal conflict; she experienced a PSYqualia premonition of defeating him, interpreting it as a horrifying nightmare. This dread caused hesitation during their confrontation. Ren deliberately fought her to shatter the psychic control and restore her. Freed, she assisted at Card Capital alongside other recovered individuals. She then joined Ren on the Fukuhara High School team for the Vanguard Koshien tournament, adopting their standard female uniform.
