Asaka Narumi is a prominent character in the Cardfight!! Vanguard anime and manga. Her surname, combining the kanji for "barking/animal noises" and "ocean," reflects her deck's themes. Initially an ordinary cardfighter, Ren Suzugamori scouted her for the Foo Fighters organization. After losing her introductory match to Kyou Yahagi, Ren consoled her, igniting intense loyalty and dedication to him. Relentless training propelled her to Rank 3 of AL4, Foo Fighters' elite team, earning the alias "Assassin" for her Pale Moon deck strategy. This tactic switches units in and out of the soul to enable more attacks per turn, treating each fight as a performance to captivate Ren. One year before the series begins, Asaka encountered Ren at Foo Fighter headquarters, unaware he recruited her. Discovering Ren primarily focused on Toshiki Kai drove her resolve to surpass Kai and earn his acknowledgment. During the national tournament, she helped secure AL4's victory. In AL4's bout against Q4, she reversed the match by countering Misaki Tokura's Tsukuyomi strategy, prompting Misaki to rebuild her deck and seek a rematch. Asaka later lost this revenge match to Misaki. Following Ren's defeat and Foo Fighters' reformation, she was reinvited to AL4. During the Asia Circuit's Seoul Stage, Asaka competed for Team New AL4 (NAL4). She defeated Misaki again by exploiting her predictable strategy and used Silver Thorn Dragon Tamer, Luquier to overcome Yuri Usui. NAL4 remained at a Tatsunagi Group resort after other teams departed. Later, during the interdimensional conflict against Void, she engaged in a tag duel with Ren against Sharlene and Jillian, interrupted by the fight table's collapse. Defeated cardfighters were subsequently returned to Earth. In later seasons, Asaka enrolled at Fukuhara High School, serving as vice-captain of its Cardfight Club while handling most duties for captain Ren. She exhibited jealousy toward Suiko Tatsunagi for serving Ren. After losing to Leon Soryu using a non-serious deck, she defeated Kourin Tatsunagi in the VF High School Kanto Block 3 finals using Miracle Pop, Eva, and Nightmare Doll Chelsea's abilities. During a Reverse incident at Fukuhara, a reversed Asaka challenged Ren, expressing frustration that her efforts to gain his acknowledgment paled compared to his regard for Kai and Aichi. She declared her intent to make Ren her puppet, demanding to be called "queen." Ren countered that he valued her strength and attitude toward loss, affirming her importance alongside Tetsu and Kai and asking her to remain by his side. After reverting, she recalled none of the exchange, leaving Ren and Suiko to tease her about it. Asaka's appearance evolves across the series. Early seasons depict her with shoulder-length blue hair, a blue coat over a white shirt, a white belt with pink ribbons, knee-length boots, light blue earrings, and a blue choker. Seasons 3–4 show her in a school uniform. By Season 6, her hair grows longer, and she wears a white long-sleeved shirt under a blue sleeveless coat, a purple ribbon, black choker, and high-heeled shoes. In the V Series anime, she dons a purple leather romper with silver accents, pink hip bows, knee-length boots, and elongated teardrop earrings. In the manga, Asaka actively hunts targets for Foo Fighters. After Minami Kawanami's loss tarnished Foo Fighter's record, she confronted Toshiki Kai at Card Capital but fought Taishi Miwa and Misaki instead. Using cards like Luck Pigeon and Barking Dragon Tamer, she lost to Misaki, prompting Ren to intervene. She later hosted Kai at Foo Fighter's apartment, tearfully lamenting her perceived uselessness to Ren after another defeat. This version portrays her crying when frustrated and physically lashing out at Tetsu. Her decks consistently utilize Pale Moon strategies. Early builds focus on Manticore and Mistress Hurricane, employing soul-charging units like Underworld Manager and Skull Juggler to enable aggressive plays. During the Asia Circuit, she incorporated Rampage of the Beast King cards, adding a second critical trigger and Silver Thorn Dragon Tamer, Luquier for multi-unit superior calls. Her manga deck accelerates soul-charging with Starting Presenter and uses Barking Dragon Tamer's field-clearing effect as a finisher.
