Description
Nagisa Misumi, known as Cure Black, stars in *Futari wa Pretty Cure* and *Futari wa Pretty Cure Max Heart*. A second-year student at Verone Academy who progresses to third year, she excels as the ace of the school lacrosse team. Though academically challenged, her pure spirit and energetic nature fuel her athletic talent and strong sense of justice. Her personality blends a sporty, hot-headed exterior with girlish inclinations—evident in her large stuffed animal collection and self-consciousness about her image. She often exclaims "Unbelievable!" ("Arienai!") when frustrated and "Lucky!" in positive moments.
Her journey begins during a meteor shower when she meets the fairy Mepple. He grants her power to transform into Cure Black, a legendary warrior defending the Garden of Light from the Dark Zone. Initially hesitant, she ultimately embraces this duty alongside her partner Yukishiro Honoka (Cure White), forging a deep friendship. Nagisa becomes fiercely protective of Honoka; Cure Black’s power surges dramatically when Cure White is threatened. She also harbors a crush on Honoka’s childhood friend, Fujimura Shougo, and shares a playful yet caring bond with her younger brother Ryouta—frequently using her signature "Cobra Twist" on him while remaining deeply devoted to his safety.
As Cure Black, her initial design features a black crop top with white ruffles, a pink belt, and magenta boots. In *Max Heart*, the outfit evolves to a longer top with added ruffles, a change prompted by parental concerns over midriff exposure. Her abilities encompass super strength and, with Cure White, the dual lightning attack "Marble Screw," later upgraded to "Marble Screw Max Sparkle." Temporary movie-exclusive forms include golden and rainbow-powered variants adorned with wing-like details and celestial motifs.
In *Precure All-Stars DX3: Mirai ni Todoke! Sekai wo Tsunagu☆Niji-Iro no Hana*, Cure Black confronts Lord Black Hole—an amalgamation of past villains. Separated from her team during interdimensional conflict, she joins lead Cures Bloom, Dream, Peach, and Blossom in a desert dimension. Here, her leadership and tactical instincts emerge as she devises strategies to reunite the scattered Cures. During the climax, all Cures sacrifice their transformation devices to reignite the Prism Flower—a light source connecting Earth to fairy worlds—defeating Black Hole. This act temporarily severs their mascot bonds, though the regenerated Prism Flower later enables their return.
Beyond her core series and DX3, Nagisa/Cure Black guest-stars in anniversary crossovers like *HappinessCharge Pretty Cure!* and *HUGtto! Pretty Cure*, battling foes such as Doctor Traum alongside other Cures, cementing her status as a franchise foundational figure.
