Yōko Honna

Yōko Honna is a Japanese actress, voice actress, and singer born on January 7, 1979, in Sōka, Saitama Prefecture, Japan. She is currently affiliated with the talent agency Re-Max, having previously been associated with 81 Produce. Honna began her career in entertainment at a very young age, joining a children's theater group at four years old in 1983. Her first television appearance was in 1986, and by the time she finished junior high school, she had appeared in an estimated 180 television dramas, films, and stage productions.
Honna made her voice acting debut in the celebrated Studio Ghibli film Only Yesterday in 1991, providing the voice for the young Taeko Okajima in fifth grade. Her breakthrough role came in 1995 when she starred as the lead character Shizuku Tsukishima in another Ghibli classic, Whisper of the Heart. For this role, she also performed the film's theme song Country Road, which became a major success, selling nearly 200,000 copies and establishing her as a singer. Following this success, she released her first album and continued her music career, but temporarily paused her entertainment activities to focus on her education. She graduated from Tokyo Prefectural Ryogoku High School and later attended Soka University, where she majored in Russian in the Department of Foreign Language Studies within the Faculty of Literature.
In 2004, Honna began her most defining and long-running role as Nagisa Misumi, the lead protagonist who transforms into Cure Black, in the popular magical girl anime series Futari wa Pretty Cure. She continued to voice this character in its direct sequel, Futari wa Pretty Cure Max Heart, and has reprised the role for over two decades in numerous crossover films and specials within the Pretty Cure All Stars franchise, including Eiga Precure All Stars: Minna de Utau Kiseki no Mahō! and Hugtto! Precure Futari wa Precure All Stars Memories. As the first Cure in the franchise, her portrayal of Nagisa Misumi is considered foundational to the long-running Pretty Cure series.
Beyond the Pretty Cure franchise, Honna has built a diverse career with many other significant anime roles. She is widely recognized as the voice of Sumeragi Lee Noriega, the tactical forecaster for the private military organization, in Mobile Suit Gundam 00 and Mobile Suit Gundam 00 Second Season, a role she also reprised for the film Mobile Suit Gundam 00 The Movie: A Wakening of the Trailblazer. Other notable television anime roles include Ange in the Koi Suru Tenshi Angelique series, Sakura in Hanamaru Kindergarten, Asta in.hack//Roots, and Vasilisa in A Certain Magical Index II. Her more recent anime credits include Wendy in Listeners, Brandy in The Idaten Deities Know Only Peace, and the voice of Claire Voyance in the theatrical film My Hero Academia: World Heroes' Mission. She has also played lead roles such as Orta in the video game Panzer Dragoon Orta and Lalaco Godspeed in the original net animation Space Patrol Luluco.
In addition to her work on Japanese anime, Honna is highly active in dubbing foreign live-action films and television series for the Japanese market. She is the regular Japanese voice dub-over actress for Elisabeth Moss, Emma Stone, and Amanda Seyfried. Her notable dubbing roles include June Osborne in The Handmaid's Tale, Gwen Stacy in The Amazing Spider-Man films, and roles in Suits, Pitch Perfect, and Dark Shadows.
Honna possesses several notable skills and talents outside of acting. She is multilingual, with proficiency in Italian and Russian, and has even served as a language supervisor for Italian dialogue in anime series such as A Certain Magical Index II. She also holds a 6th dan rank in calligraphy and plays the piano. Her other interests and specialties include playing tennis, tap dancing, and Korean dance. Honna has been married to a non-celebrity since 2014 and has two children, continuing her voice acting career while raising her family.
