TV-Series
Description
Nagisa Misumi, a second-year Verone Academy student, discovers her destiny upon meeting the fairy Mepple from the Garden of Light. This encounter grants her the power to become Cure Black, the inaugural Pretty Cure warrior. Academically challenged but a star lacrosse player, Nagisa exhibits a hot-headed, passionate personality. She frequently exclaims catchphrases like "Unbelievable!" in frustration or "Lucky!" during favorable moments. Despite her sporty image, she enjoys girlish pursuits like shopping (often overspending) and owns a large stuffed animal collection. She possesses a substantial appetite, favoring "yaki" foods like takoyaki while disliking onions.

Her appearance features short ginger hair, light brown eyes, and slightly tanned skin. Casual wear typically includes a black-and-white raglan shirt under a pink jacket, a red skirt, and distinctive sneakers. School uniforms and seasonal variations appear across media. As Cure Black, her transformation outfit includes silver heart-shaped earrings, a black crop top with white ruffles, pink accents, and a skirt-shorts combination. *Futari wa Pretty Cure Max Heart* modified this design due to viewer feedback, adding a dark magenta vest and extra ruffles to cover her midriff. Special forms include a golden outfit with silver hearts (using Golden Powers in the first *Max Heart* movie) and a winged "Rainbow Cure Black" form in the second movie.

Initially jealous of Honoka Yukishiro (Cure White) for her academic excellence and popularity, Nagisa forms a reluctant partnership with her after both simultaneously encounter their fairies (Mepple and Mipple) and must defend against Dark Zone minions. She develops a deep bond with Honoka, displaying protective instincts especially when Honoka is endangered. Nagisa harbors a crush on Honoka's childhood friend, Shougo Fujimura, often becoming flustered around him. Her dynamic with younger brother Ryouta involves frequent squabbles countered by fierce protectiveness. In *Max Heart*, she befriends Hikari Kujou (Shiny Luminous), refusing to sacrifice her for the Queen's revival and prioritizing their friendship. Her fairy partner Mepple resides in a communication device; their relationship mixes constant bickering with mutual care.

Nagisa's combat style as Cure Black emphasizes super strength and lightning-based attacks, typically executed jointly with Cure White. Signature techniques include their dual energy blast "Marble Screw" and its upgraded variants "Marble Screw Max" and "Marble Screw Max Spark." Group attacks with Shiny Luminous include "Extreme Luminario." Using Rainbow Gauntlets, she employs healing abilities like "Rainbow Therapy" and the "Rainbow Storm" beam. She evolves from a reluctant hero focused on popularity to a determined protector. Key moments demonstrating growth include rescuing Cure White alone from a darkness prison and rejecting Hikari's sacrifice for the Queen. Her resolve strengthens through battles against the Dark King and Seeds of Darkness, embodying themes of courage and hope.

Later appearances include franchise anniversaries and crossovers: a brief role in *HappinessCharge PreCure!* (10th anniversary), summoned by Hugtan alongside Honoka to battle Doctor Traum in *Hug! Pretty Cure*, and features in *Soaring Sky! Pretty Cure* (20th anniversary) and *Wonderful Pretty Cure!*. In the *HUGtto!* movie, she wears a white top with a red "N" insignia. Adult depictions, like in *Kibou no Chikara Otona Pretty Cure 23*, retain her core personality and style while showing matured features like longer hair.

Trivia includes her October 10 birthday aligning with Yin-Yang Day, Libra zodiac sign, and blood type O. Symbolically, she represents Yin (darkness/passivity), contrasting Cure White's Yang. Her surname "Misumi" combines "beauty" (美) and "ink" (墨), referencing Cure Black’s color theme. In the *Pretty Cure All Stars Suite Flower Card Collection*, she is associated with pansies symbolizing trust and pure love. Distinguishing franchise traits include being the first lead Cure without pink as a primary color, the only lead Cure initially lacking hair accessories, and having the shortest hair among lead Cures until later entries. Adaptations changed her name, such as "Natalie Blackstone" in English dubs.
