TV-Series
Description
Himari Arisugawa is a fourteen-year-old second-year middle school student and one of the main characters. Her alter ego is Cure Custard, the Pretty Cure of intelligence and courage, whose themes are pudding and squirrels.

In her everyday life, Himari has a petite frame and is known for being as fast and light on her feet as a squirrel. She has a shy, gentle, and somewhat reserved personality, often feeling nervous around strangers or when placed in the public eye. This social anxiety stems from her childhood, where her tendency to become overly enthusiastic and lecture others about her interests would inadvertently drive them away, leading her to isolate herself. Because of this past, she often hesitates to speak up with people she does not know well, for fear of overwhelming them. However, she is also diligent and remarkably intelligent.

Himari shares with her friend Ichika a profound love for sweets, but her approach to this passion is uniquely analytical. She is deeply fascinated by the scientific principles behind baking and confectionery, studying them extensively. Her vast knowledge on the subject has earned her the nickname Sweets Doctor, and she is capable of explaining the effects of various desserts on the body with great ease. Her favorite sweet treat is pudding. Her enthusiasm for this subject is boundless, and once she begins talking about the science of sweets, she becomes nearly impossible to stop, which is reflected in her catchphrase Sweets Are Science and her eager exclamation Let Me Explain.

Her primary motivation throughout the story is to overcome her shyness and find the courage to connect with others. Initially, she is content to keep her knowledge to herself, but her friendship with Ichika, who accepts her without reservation, becomes a catalyst for her growth. Her primary struggle is a constant battle between her shyness and her desire for courage, a conflict that is explored in various forms, including a lack of self-confidence, low self-esteem, and fear of rejection. A key moment in her development is when she realizes that sharing her passion for the science of sweets with others makes the experience more fun, giving her the push to use her knowledge to make people happy.

Within the group, Himari acts as the brains of the team, providing scientific insight that often helps the other Cures understand the properties of their enemies or the sweets they create. Her closest relationship is with her classmate Ichika Usami, the first Cure to befriend her and who constantly encourages her. She also shares a significant bond with Aoi Tategami. Despite coming from very different backgrounds, Aoi’s bold and passionate nature complements Himari’s timidness, and their friendship is solidified when they defend each other's passions against criticism. She greatly admires a scientist named Tachibana Yuu, the author of her favorite book, The Science of Sweets, and his encouragement helps her begin to trust in her own abilities.

Throughout the series, Himari experiences steady and notable development. Overcome her initial fears enough to become a video reporter, stumbles during a television audition when her anxiety causes her to revert to overly complex scientific explanations, and faces a villain who burns her hand-written research notebooks in an attempt to break her spirit. In each instance, she finds the strength to persevere by remembering the bonds she has formed and realizing that her true value comes from her love for sweet science, not from the notebooks themselves. In the series epilogue, set years later, she has grown up to become a scientist who researches sweets, successfully merging her childhood passions into a fulfilling career.

As Cure Custard, she gains abilities themed around her squirrel motif and scientific mind. To transform, she uses a Sweets Pact and her Animal Sweet, reciting the chant Cure A La Mode Decoration Pudding. Her primary individual attack is Custard Illusion, performed with the Candy Rod, which allows her to fire a barrage of yellow energy projectiles. As a Cure, her signature power is super speed, allowing her to move as quickly as a squirrel, and she fights with an analytical approach, often using her knowledge to outmaneuver opponents or create sticky, rope-like constructs of magical batter to restrain them.
