When Katta applied these tactics to defeat Onsen, it forged their enduring friendship. Benchan then aided Katta in deck construction, specializing in Darkness Civilization cards, and trained under Katsuzo Kirifuda for the Duel Carnival Tournament. During training, he admired duelist Mimi but lost to her. Though not competing in the tournament, he supported Katta from the sidelines, confident in his triumph. Benchan later intervened as Onsen stole Katta's prize card, dueling Onsen to stall him until Katta arrived. Despite losing and enduring injuries from Onsen's "Super Hot" mode, he secured crucial time for Katta.

In the *Versus* saga, Benchan rose to the Elite Four alongside Kojiro, Lucifer, and Sasori, emerging as Katta's fierce rival. He enrolled at "Genius Middle School," which banned all entertainment including Duel Masters, prompting him to found a dueling school where he became head instructor. This environment hardened him emotionally, making him intolerant of defeat, as seen against Lucifer. Benchan maintained a romantic bond with top-grade student Lena, who later assisted him. He alerted Katta to Draghearts and devised analytical dueling tactics, converting duel events into data to counter opponents like Sasori. At the Duel Masters National Tournament, he employed strategic deception against Lucifer—feigning foolishness or wearing a bunny suit—but lost when Lucifer unleashed enhanced abilities. Benchan later hacked environmental systems to aid Lucifer against Gyou and supported Katta in the finals.

Throughout *Versus Revolution*, Benchan investigated Bucchake's disappearance, exposing Duel Masters Land's underground operations. With Hokaben and Lulu, he infiltrated the facility, clashing physically with the brainwashed Bucchake. Their penalty duel required consuming spicy ramen upon shield breaks; Benchan's victory freed Bucchake from mind control. Later, Duel Masters Land brainwashed Benchan, marking him with an invader symbol and shark-like pupils.
