TV-Series
Description
Sayo Hikawa is the older twin sister of Hina Hikawa and the guitarist for Roselia. She initially attended Hanasakigawa Girls' High School, serving on the student council and disciplinary committee while participating in the archery club. After graduation, she enrolled as a first-year law student at Keiho Women's University.
A longstanding sense of inadequacy compared to Hina, who naturally excelled from childhood in activities like playground contests and academics, defined Sayo's background. This dynamic fostered an inferiority complex, leading her to distance herself from her twin. She took up guitar specifically because it was a domain untouched by Hina, seeking her own identity. Her dislike of carrots originates from childhood; she habitually ate Hina's portions to help her sister, resulting in reprimands for neglecting her own. While she avoids carrots, she cannot recall the aversion's exact origin.
Sayo exhibits a serious, meticulous, and initially cold demeanor. She speaks formally, typically using last names, and rejects carelessness in work or practice. Diligent and demanding of rigorous rehearsal schedules for Roselia, she initially dismissed personal indulgences like fluffy animals or french fries despite secretly enjoying both. Her personality includes a tendency toward stubbornness and blunt remarks, often masking her true feelings. She is also surprisingly susceptible to believing unconventional explanations.
Significant development occurred through her efforts to reconcile with Hina. After a candid conversation where Hina expressed admiration, Sayo chose to continue pursuing guitar, focusing on discovering her "own sound" rather than comparing herself. This reconciliation gradually softened her interactions, making her more openly kind toward Hina and others. She began supporting peers outside Roselia, such as giving guitar lessons to Touko after initial hesitation about her teaching abilities.
Within Roselia, Sayo is recognized for her precise technical skill. She plays an ESP M-II guitar model, which received a real-life replica release. During a crisis when the band nearly disbanded, she and Lisa took decisive action to preserve the group, highlighting her role as both a musical and emotional pillar. She deeply values her bandmates, regularly baking cookies with Lisa for them.
Beyond music, Sayo engages in archery and reads music magazines extensively. She took up baking after a band event and regularly seeks Lisa's guidance. She also started playing the online game Neo Fantasy Online as a Tank-class character and pursued a driver's license after high school. Her trivia includes preferring dogs over cats, receiving compliments about her hands from Tae, and bearing the nickname "Sadness Metronome" for her careful yet occasionally somber disposition.
Her name reflects her character: "Sayo" (紗夜) incorporates "night" (夜), contrasting with Hina’s "day" (日), symbolizing their differing personalities. She stands 161 cm tall, sharing the title of tallest Roselia member with Maya.
