Description
Moca Aoba is a third-year student at Haneoka Girls' High School and serves as the lead guitarist for the band Afterglow, a group formed entirely of childhood friends. Her demeanor is consistently sleepy and relaxed, often speaking with a slow, monotone voice that can give the impression of disinterest. Beneath this drowsy exterior, however, she is surprisingly sly, perceptive, and sharp-witted, frequently making playful remarks and teasing those around her. She is highly confident and self-aware, sometimes playfully drawing attention to her own charms or flaws. Moca tends to be apathetic toward activities or subjects that do not capture her interest, but she becomes deeply absorbed and passionate when something does engage her, especially playing the guitar. Her dedication to music is evident in her persistent practice and the emotional connection she forges through her performances.
At the core of her motivations are the people she values most. She has little drive for abstract goals but is fiercely devoted to her close friends, particularly Mitake Ran, with whom she shares an especially deep bond. The dynamic between Moca and Ran often combines playful rivalry with profound mutual understanding, and their relationship undergoes meaningful growth throughout the story. Moca is also close to bandmate Yamabuki Saaya and maintains a friendship with Imai Lisa, with whom she works a part-time job at a convenience store. These relationships ground her and drive her to participate actively in the band's journey.
Within Afterglow, Moca often acts as a harmonizing presence, lightening tense moments with her dry humor and easygoing attitude. Her character development centers on moving from a passive, go-with-the-flow role to a more proactive one, facing challenges such as stage fright and the pressures of collaboration in story arcs like the Boys Band Adventure. Through these experiences, she evolves into a more engaged and assertive participant in shaping the band's future. Notable abilities include her skill as a guitarist, which grows through practice and collaborative performances, allowing her to convey emotion through music. Her only limitation is a tendency toward absent-mindedness, which can occasionally lead to missed cues during high-pressure situations. Moca also has a well-known love for bread, especially the bread from Yamabuki Bakery, and a strong dislike for spicy foods. She enjoys collecting point cards, sleeping, and reading manga, particularly shonen and action series.
