Description
Tsugumi Hazawa, a third-year student at Haneoka Girls' Academy, plays keyboard in the band Afterglow and is affectionately called "Tsugu" by close friends. Her family runs Hazawa Coffee, where she works part-time with Wakamiya Eve and Futaba Tsukushi.

Though she views herself as Afterglow’s most ordinary member, Tsugumi’s relentless optimism and diligence inspire the band. She rarely loses heart, uplifting others during hardships, yet privately doubts her musical abilities and feels overshadowed by her bandmates. This drives her to overcompensate through strenuous practice, sometimes pushing herself too hard. Unfamiliar social situations easily fluster her, and humility leads her to downplay accomplishments.

Tsugumi initiated Afterglow’s formation by proposing the band concept and continually motivates the group toward new goals, like participating in the Girls Jam concert. Within the band, she uniquely addresses all members with the "-chan" honorific. When exceptionally driven, her bandmates describe her as "Tsugurific" (Tsugutteru in Japanese).

As student council president, her duties—combined with band commitments and cafe work—often strain her schedule. A *Garupa ☆ Pico* spin-off episode highlights her struggle with identity: After noticing scant fan reviews of her performances, she adopts a death metal-inspired image change. This unsettles the group, especially Mitake Ran, prompting Tsugumi to abandon the approach.

Her interests include astrology and stargazing, sparked by nightly sky observations. She memorizes friends’ astrological signs and celestial myths and excels at spotting the first visible star after sunset. She collects bath powders and enjoys bath bombs. Other hobbies involve reading shoujo manga and watching film adaptations, sometimes late into the night. She admires dolphins, valuing the trust in trainer-dolphin relationships during aquarium shows. She dislikes black coffee and fears thunderstorms.

An only child, Tsugumi envies siblings who share musical connections, like the Udagawa sisters (Tomoe and Ako) performing together. At 156 cm, she ranks among the franchise’s shortest characters. Her designated color is #FFDC5A.
