Description
Kanon Matsubara, the drummer of Hello, Happy World! recruited by Kokoro, progressed from a second-year student at Hanasakigawa Girls' Academy to her third year before enrolling as a first-year at Keiho Women's University, Faculty of Letters. Her high school graduation featured special commemorative events and a themed card.
Physically, she stands 156 cm tall with long, curly pale blue hair usually worn loose, featuring a section pulled into a decorative ribbon-secured side ponytail. Her appearance is defined by large violet eyes, short curled bangs, and a preference for frilly, feminine clothing. Seasonal outfits include light summer dresses with transparent frills or off-the-shoulder designs, accessorized with a red heart necklace, and layered winter wear with fuzzy jackets and patterned tights.
Overwhelmingly shy and nervous, Kanon frequently exclaims "fuee" when distressed. She is notably clumsy, often breaking drumsticks during practice, and possesses an exceptionally poor sense of direction, easily getting lost even in familiar areas or on public transit, though she can locate cafes and shops by scent. Paradoxically, she demonstrates responsibility and sensibility, acting as a stabilizing force within the band. She exhibits moments of determination, like initiating solo street performances to challenge herself, gradually developing greater courage while retaining her kind, hardworking nature and difficulty refusing requests.
Beyond the band, she shares a close friendship and apartment with Chisato Shirasagi, known since middle school. She works part-time at a fast-food place alongside Aya Maruyama and participates in the tea ceremony club with Eve Wakamiya. Her hobbies include watching jellyfish, cafe-hopping, cooking (often preparing household meals), creating felt dolls after learning from Misaki, and drawing—a skill cultivated since childhood. She also has a younger brother.
Distinctive quirks include her striking resemblance to Nicolina, the meek and polite princess of the fictional Happinelle Kingdom. This likeness led Kokoro to associate Nicolina with Kanon's pre-band personality. Kanon's design was also adapted for crossovers, modeled after Senoo Aiko in an Ojamajo Doremi collaboration. Her name, Kanon (花音), combines "flower" (花) and "sound/tone" (音), while Matsubara (松原) merges "pine tree" (松) and "field/plain" (原).
