Description
Kasumi Toyama is a third-year student at Hanasakigawa Girls' High School. She leads the band Poppin'Party as its vocalist, rhythm guitarist, and primary lyricist. Living with her parents and younger sister Asuka, their relationship often obscures which sister takes the more responsible role. A pivotal childhood moment occurred while stargazing: Kasumi felt a "Star Beat," a sparkling, heart-pounding sensation she longed to recapture. Years later, tracing star-shaped stickers led her to a pawnshop and the discovery of the star-shaped guitar Random Star. Witnessing Glitter*Green perform live at SPACE cemented her dream to form a band and rediscover that feeling.

Energetic, optimistic, and playful, Kasumi forms friendships effortlessly and maintains positive bonds across diverse personalities, sharing particular enthusiasm with Kokoro Tsurumaki and Tomoe Udagawa. Her determination fuels her progress but occasionally manifests as pushiness or obliviousness to boundaries, like insisting Saaya return to drumming despite family obligations or pressuring Arisa during disagreements. Kasumi frequently forgets important tasks unintentionally until the last minute and enjoys teasing Arisa, though whether this teasing is deliberate provocation or genuine innocence remains ambiguous. She dislikes horror genres and experiences anxiety during airplane flights. An earlier manga iteration in *Star Beat* depicted her differently: depressed, lonely, bullied, wearing glasses, and hating singing due to low self-esteem.

Her development centers on forming Poppin'Party and overcoming obstacles. Failing SPACE's initial audition due to inexperience led her to isolate herself, over-practice until injuring her fingers, and lose her voice from stress. The band reconciled by redistributing vocal parts in "Mae e Susume!" during a park meeting, reaffirming their purpose. When Tae Hanazono temporarily joined Raise A Suilen, Kasumi's denial of Poppin'Party's growing tensions caused them to miss a cultural festival performance, highlighting her tendency to avoid confronting problems; she later helped mediate Tae's return. Kasumi also spearheaded the band's entry into the Girls Band Challenge, encouraging experimentation with new venues despite Arisa's reservations. Her growth includes recognizing leadership missteps, such as pushing Arisa too far during the "Double Rainbow" conflict and acknowledging the need for empathy. By her third year, she worked part-time at the live house RiNG and crafted lyrics inspired by mundane yet "sparkling" moments, a philosophy she articulated during a first-year representative speech weaving in memories of her friendships and later advised Lisa Imai on.

In the film *Poppin'Dream!*, Kasumi performs with Poppin'Party, Roselia, and Raise A Suilen at Budokan. After the concert, a mysterious woman approaches them about an overseas opportunity, hinting at her next stage.

Kasumi possesses purple eyes and brown hair styled with two symmetrical, star-shaped tufts held by red star clips, unaffected by weather. Her outfits evolve across seasons: starting with a baby-blue T-shirt dress and yellow flannel waist-tie; shifting to a third-season orange hoodie and apricot skirt; wearing winter red collared shirts with star-patterned sweaters; and donning summer polka-dot tops with transparent sleeves. She accessorizes with star-shaped necklaces and a black watch.

Notable traits include her inability to swim (unlike her sister, a swim club member), a sensitivity to Saaya's bakery scents that detects new bread varieties, and a revealed childhood friendship with Hagumi Kitazawa when Kasumi wore her hair down. Her height is 156 cm, matching Tsugumi Hazawa, Aya Maruyama, Hinata Hikawa, Kanon Matsubara, and Taki Shiina. She shares her name's etymology with Kazumi Tokiwa of Milky Holmes Feathers, who is also voiced by the same actress.
