Tae Hanazono is a third-year student at Hanasakigawa Girls' High School and the lead guitarist for Poppin'Party. She resides with her parents and twenty pet rabbits, treating them as her children and naming many after famous guitarists like Les Paul, Jimi Hendrix, and B.B. King. One rabbit, Odd-Eye (affectionately nicknamed Occhan or Oddie), earns the unique title of her "boyfriend." Her deep affection for rabbits leads her to avoid rabbit-shaped food, collect rabbit plushies, and knit outfits for them after discovering an interest in handicrafts. She often draws rabbit comparisons for people, likening Rimi's shyness and Arisa's twin tails to rabbit ears.
Tae cultivated significant guitar skills starting in elementary school. She saved money from part-time jobs at live houses and music instrument stores to buy her blue ESP Snapper guitar. Before Poppin'Party, she spent much time alone and lacked friends. Her initial interaction with Kasumi Toyama occurred during a remedial home economics class where Tae taught Kasumi basic chords. Though initially skeptical of Kasumi's ambition to audition at SPACE due to the band's skill level, Tae was deeply moved by their impromptu performance for friends and family. The sheer joy of playing with others overwhelmed her, prompting her to join as Poppin'Party's fourth member—marking her first real friendships, as she explicitly stated no one considered her a friend before.
Her personality is relaxed and airheaded; she moves at her own pace yet surprises others with unexpected insights, particularly about music. She makes quirky remarks and sometimes loses focus during conversations, often daydreaming about rabbits or her favorite food, hamburger steak. Despite a generally optimistic outlook, moments of social awkwardness surface, rooted in her earlier isolation. She clarified that her childhood friend Rei wasn't considered a close friend like her Poppin'Party bandmates due to their long separation. Tae temporarily played guitar for Raise A Suilen after being scouted by Rei and Chiyu, with Poppin'Party's blessing. However, this dual commitment caused her to miss Poppin'Party's anniversary concert. She later parted ways with Raise A Suilen after a final live performance, reaffirming her dedication to Poppin'Party by writing them a song of gratitude. She also collaborated with Arisa to organize a party commemorating their first successful SPACE audition.
In the spin-off series "BanG Dream! GARUPA☆PICO ~Ohmori~," Tae participates in street performances, demonstrating her commitment to live music. During the episode "Hanazono Street Live," she prepares for an impromptu show by checking her amplifier, guitar, and smile.
Appearance-wise, she possesses gentle green eyes and straight, waist-length dark brown hair with choppy bangs, including a section covering her right ear. Her casual attire evolves: initially featuring a blue short-sleeved shirt with sheer layers and gems, white jeans, and black ribbon-strap shoes. By the third season, this shifts to a plain white shirt with a rabbit design under an oversized dark blue cardigan, black jeans with a brown belt, a small blue necklace, and white ribbon-strap shoes. Her winter outfit includes a pink fluffy sweater and blue jeans with a black choker, while her summer wear consists of a mint green flower-patterned T-shirt and high-waisted white pants.
She holds part-time jobs at multiple music-related venues and eventually manages a music shop after coworkers quit post-graduation. Her hobbies include non-competitive running, working with clay, taking long baths, visiting pet shops and music stores, and photographing rabbit-shaped objects. She occasionally invents portmanteau words, like "Rosepa" for Roselia and Poppin'Party.
