Description
Masuki Sato, performing as MASKING, is a third-year student at Shirayuki Girls' Academy, the Catholic all-girls school she has attended since kindergarten. She drums for the band RAISE A SUILEN, initially inspired by her admiration for her father, owner of the livehouse "Galaxy".
Her appearance features short, asymmetrical blonde hair and dark gold eyes. Her casual style is "sukeban" (delinquent-like), typically wearing a cropped black top, wide-leg pants, and a deep red sukajan jacket decorated with white stripes and rabbit motifs. At school, she wears the traditional ankle-length blue sailor uniform. Despite her sharp gaze and rugged look, she enjoys traditionally cute activities: baking cakes, drawing manga, reading shōjo manga (especially *Miracle Drum☆Snappy-chan*), and watching anime films. She holds a part-time job at "Ramen Ginga" and possesses a scooter license.
Her intensely physical, improvisational drumming earned her the nickname "Mad Dog." This style initially hindered band commitments, as her overwhelming performances disrupted other musicians. After playing in a middle school cultural festival band, she lashed out at bandmates following a mediocre show, leading to years as an isolated freelance support drummer. A pivotal moment came upon discovering a photo of her father's band; seeing his genuine musical joy contrasted sharply with her own frustration, prompting her to reevaluate her approach.
MASKING was scouted by CHU² (Tamade Chiyu), who recognized her raw talent and offered a space to play without restraint, leading to her joining RAISE A SUILEN. Her stage name blends "Masuki" and "King" – the latter a title bestowed by fellow drummer Maya Yamato, whom Masuki deeply admires and mimics when speaking. Within RAS, Masuki acts as a stabilizing force: she encouraged Rokka Asahi to re-audition after an initial failure and confronted CHU² about the leader's overly competitive "war" against other bands, deeming it counterproductive. She raises morale, reassuring Rokka her drumming would push the guitarist to excel.
She embodies duality: everyday Masuki is enthusiastic, socially awkward, and fond of teasing bandmates (especially CHU²), while onstage MASKING is a fierce, unrestrained performer. Though prone to impulsive outbursts and regretting harsh words, she deeply values her RAS friendships. Her surname "Satou" (佐藤) incorporates characters meaning "help" and "wisteria," the latter symbolizing love and support in Kabuki theater – reflecting her role as the band's emotional anchor.
Additional traits include disliking early mornings, an ability to fall asleep anywhere, and a height of 170 cm (tying her with Kaoru Seta). Her birthday, May 12, coincides with RAS’s debut as the opening act for Poppin'Party’s 5th Live concert.
