Description
Masuki Sato, who performs under the stage name MASKING, is the drummer of the band RAISE A SUILEN. She is a student at Shirayuki Private Academy and the daughter of the owner of the live house Galaxy, where she also works part-time making ramen. Inspired by her father, who is a drummer himself, she began playing the drums at a young age. Despite her imposing appearance and a no‑nonsense demeanor that sometimes intimidates others, Masuki has a deeply passionate and caring nature. She enjoys hobbies that contrast with her tough exterior, such as drawing manga, baking cakes, and watching anime movies.
Her motivations are rooted in a desire to prove herself and, ultimately, to find a band where she belongs. Early in her career, her immense skill was overshadowed by her tendency to lose herself in high‑difficulty improvisations, a style that overwhelmed her bandmates and earned her the nickname Mad Dog. This reputation made it difficult for her to join a stable group until she was scouted by Chiyu Tamade, the band’s DJ, who recognized her raw talent and channeled it into RAISE A SUILEN.
Within the story, Masuki serves as the rhythmic foundation of RAISE A SUILEN, anchoring their heavy, electronic‑infused rock sound. Her role often involves supporting the band’s frontwoman, Rei Wakana, and she shares a close, pre‑existing working relationship with her. Her key relationships include a strong bond with Rei, a frustrated but respectful dynamic with the demanding Chiyu, and a protective, affectionate friendship with younger members like Rokka Asahi. Over time, she learns to temper her wild playing style to better synchronize with her band, gradually shifting from a lone performer into a reliable team player. Her development is marked by her letting go of her solitary “mad dog” identity and embracing the collective spirit of RAISE A SUILEN.
Notable abilities include technically unmatched drumming, particularly in speed and complex improvisation, and a deep intuitive sense of rhythm that allows her to drive a performance even when she goes off‑script. She is also known for her physical endurance and energetic stage presence, which have made her a memorable figure in the BanG Dream! franchise.
