Description
Fumihiko Makabe, a former soldier and father of Kazuki Makabe, married Akane Makabe—a superior officer—adopting her surname. Following Akane’s assimilation by a Festum during an attack, he raised Kazuki alone while operating the Makabe Pottery Store on Tatsumiya Island. His military history, marked by battles against Festum and human adversaries, forged his determination to spare younger generations from such strife.

After Alvis’s prior commander perished, Fumihiko assumed leadership. Though his soldier’s instincts initially drove him toward total war against the Festum, parenthood tempered his outlook. He advocates fiercely to shield children from combat, yet grim necessity compels him to permit Kazuki’s role as a Fafner pilot.

Outwardly stoic to offer Kazuki stability, Fumihiko masks inner turmoil. He inhabits a modest residence blending living space with a ceramics workshop, crafting traditional pottery. His leadership merges clear-eyed pragmatism with empathy, enforcing difficult choices while safeguarding the island’s community.

He values Soushi Minashiro’s tactical acumen, entrusting him to aid Kazuki in missions—a testament to his guarded faith in youth despite paternal protectiveness. His bond with Kazuki rests on unspoken accord, both sidestepping discussions of their shared grief to preserve fragile equilibrium.
